Audi’s delicious electric station wagon gets a sport version and a slimmer Sportback variant – with a maximum range of 75 miles.
The new Audi A6 and S6 e-tron are manufactured in two body styles: the hatchback Sportback and the hatchback Avant. It is the first mentioned that can go up to 75 miles on one charge. Avant can handle 72 miles.
This can be compared with 64 miles for the sibling Audi Q6 e-tron Performance. The explanation is the difference in body shape, mainly the height, which gives different air resistance: The one with a Cd value of 0.21 for the A6 e-tron Sportback, 0.24 for the A6 e-tron Avant and 0.30 for the Q6 e-tron performance.
The Audi A6 e-tron charges quickly
Just like the Audi Q6 e-tron, the Audi A6 and S6 e-tron are based on the new PPE platform with 800-volt technology, which among other things makes it possible to charge with up to 270 kW with an 800-volt charger. A flat charging curve allows the car to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes.
For those who end up at a 400-volt charger, the car can adapt to maximize charging time. For AC charging at home, the maximum output is 11 kW, but in the future it will be possible to order 22 kW.
The battery’s capacity is 94.9 kWh net.
The Audi A6 e-tron Performance has rear-wheel drive with a 367-horsepower electric motor that provides a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds. Top speed is 210 km/h.
The sporty Audi S6 e-tron has four-wheel drive and dual motors that provide a continuous system output of 503 horsepower and 550 horsepower in boost mode. That’s because 0-100 km/h goes in just 3.9 seconds. The top speed is 240 km/h and the range 67 and 64 miles, respectively.
In the future, the “regular” Audi A6 e-tron will come in a quattro version with four-wheel drive. There will also be a cheaper version of the A6 e-tron with a slightly smaller battery of 83 kWh net.
The Audi A6 e-tron Avant is 493 centimeters long and has a wheelbase of 295 cm. The height is 157 cm and the width 192 cm. The cargo space in the combined car holds 502 liters under the privacy cover and 1,422 liters with the rear seat folded down. Sportback has the same cargo volume under the privacy cover. At the front there is a small 27-litre compartment.
The towing capacity is 2.1 tonnes for the A6 e-tron. We suspect there will be more for the upcoming quattro model.
As the trend dictates, the car has large screens and an optional passenger screen. The infotainment system is based on the Android Automotive OS and it will be possible to install additional apps.
Audi emphasizes that an advantage of the new Android system is, among other things, better route planning.
Price and delivery Audi A6 e-tron and Audi S6 e-tron
The Audi A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron can be ordered from September 2024. Deliveries begin at the turn of the year.
The Swedish prices start at SEK 839,900 for the A6 Sportback e-tron performance. The high-performance Audi S6 e-tron Sportback costs SEK 1,157,200. The combination supplement for the Avant models is SEK 20,000.
