New on Dutch license plates: the Cupra Tavascan and Polestar 3

We have already looked at the RDW registrations of the month of June in various ways. This time we focus on the EVs.

In June, 11,594 EVs were provided with new Dutch plates. Most of the copies were brand new, but still, more than 1,000 registrations are related to cars that had been driving around abroad for a while. EVs are also playing an increasingly important role in imported cars.

Which brands and models are often imported from abroad? The top ones:

Fiat 500e 68
Audi e-tron 54
Hyundai Kona Electric 53
Volkswagen ID.3 52
Renault Zoe 50
Tesla Model 3 47
Volkswagen ID.4 47
Volkswagen Up! 44
Mini Cooper SE 42
Kia Niro EV 39

Looking at the RDW registrations of EVs in the month of June, several other things also stood out.

Cupra Tavascan

It took a while, because the Cupra Tavascan was already presented in 2019. After that it remained quiet, until a production version was shown in 2023. And so in June the first Tavascans on yellow plates appeared. Eight pieces, all in blue.

The e.Go Life is a very small city car from Germany. Until now there were only three on Dutch license plates, all “First Editions” from 2020.

In June, three more were brought in from abroad. Two red and one grey, all from 2022. It concerns the version with a battery of 23.5 kWh and a capacity of 82 HP.

Genesis G80

A brand that we should see driving around more often in the Netherlands is Genesis, the luxury branch of Hyundai. Beautiful chic cars and clearly different from the many ‘standard’ cars that drive around here. Slowly but surely they are trickling into the RDW register and last month we were able to welcome the first G80. Not the petrol version, but the EV. Or as Genesis itself describes it, the ‘Electrified G80’. Charging with 800V, an 87 kWh battery with a range of 427 kilometers, solar panels in the roof and a capacity of 370 hp. The catalogue price according to the RDW: €61,800, so certainly an interesting car!

Polestar 3

It was just a matter of time, the appearance of the Polestar 3 in the RDW register. And in June it was finally there, 21 copies were registered. Of which six pieces even with the old Z-series.

For those who like numbers, this was the Polestar position on July 1st according to the RDW:

Polestar 1 35
Polestar 2 11,324
Polestar 3 21
Polestar HK 2

You are now probably wondering, what is the Polestar HK? That is a Polestar 2 converted by Huiskamp Carrosseriefabriek for state transport. Or as they call it in the RDW register, a hearse. There are more of those now, but they are simply registered as Polestar 2.
