The perfect modification for a 205 GTI is here

Almost forty years later, there is a way to make your Peugeot 205 GTI cooler.

Fast Peugeots used to be quite an experience. Last week, when a cool 208 was presented that tried to honor its ancestors, we briefly reviewed it. A British company called Tolman also thinks the 205 GTI is cool, cool enough to make a rather crazy ‘restomod’ out of it. One in the ‘nice and normal’ category: mainly leaving the exterior as it is and turning things upside down.

Rims

Something where a Peugeot 205 GTI shines even more in simplicity than in other places: the rims. You probably know two designs, pictured above and below. Both are extremely simple designs, the ‘earlier’ rims that you know from the 1.6 as below are just simple steel rims with a Peugeot hub cap. They are also the rims that you know from the crazy Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 rally car.

Tolman decided to do something with those rims. The design provided the perfect basis for an optional set of rims for their restomod. However, the rims had to be enlarged to 15 inches for the full effect. So the steel rim effect is still there, but with a slightly more pronounced lip.

More space

In a way it is a shame for the authenticity of the Peugeot 205 GTI, but there is a practical reason to choose the ‘Turbo 16’ rims from Tolman. Thanks to an aluminum construction they are lighter than the standard units and because of the size of 15 inches they fit bigger brakes more easily. For the extra power that Tolman adds, that is very nice. Oh yes, and they are a bit further out.

Buying is allowed, that will cost you 1,440 pounds or 1,710 euros. That’s expensive for a set of rims for a 205 GTI, but 205 GTIs themselves are expensive. Especially with all the stuff Tolman adds to it.
