Volvo FH Aero launched in Korea, aerodynamic large truck

Volvo Trucks Korea (CEO: Kang-seok Park) unveiled the new Volvo FH Aero model and announced its domestic launch at a media conference held in Seongsu-dong, Seoul on Wednesday, September 4. The Volvo FH is Volvo Trucks’ best-selling model, and Volvo Trucks announced the establishment of a new lineup by globally revealing the FH Aero in January of this year.

Volvo Trucks Korea unveiled the new Volvo FH Aero for the first time in Korea at a media conference attended by Johan Selvén, Vice President Volvo Trucks International, Peter Hardin, Director of Product Planning at Volvo Trucks International, and Kang-Seok Park, CEO of Volvo Trucks Korea. The new Aero will be launched in Korea in four models: Volvo FH Aero, Volvo FH Aero Electric, Volvo FH Aero LNG, and Volvo FH16 Aero.

The new model FH Aero, which is equipped with Volvo Trucks’ cutting-edge technology, features higher energy efficiency through aerodynamic design and the best safety through the application of a camera monitoring system. As a result, the new Volvo FH Aero can reduce energy consumption and exhaust gas emissions by up to 5%. In addition, various cutting-edge technologies are applied to enable drivers to drive more stably and comfortably.

“Sustainability is the most important value pursued by Volvo Trucks. We have been thinking about how to provide competitive transport solutions that help Volvo Trucks customers run their businesses while achieving their sustainability goals,” said Johan Selven at the media conference. “The new Volvo FH Aero is the result of this thinking. We are confident that the Volvo FH Aero will bring better results for our customers and the environment.”

Peter Hardin also said: “The Volvo FH Aero is the culmination of technologies that Volvo Trucks has developed to improve energy efficiency over the years. The new extended aerodynamic cab design improves fuel efficiency by around five per cent compared to the previous model, while the new camera monitoring system improves safety as well.” He added: “With more torque and horsepower, as well as significantly reduced fuel and CO2 emissions, the new Volvo FH Aero is an example of Volvo Trucks’ sincere commitment to preparing the transport solutions of the future.”

Park Kang-seok, CEO of Volvo Trucks Korea, said, “We are delighted to finally be able to present the new FH Aero model to Korean customers. Volvo Trucks Korea has been working hard to delicately meet the needs of our customers. From our customers’ perspective, the design and performance of the vehicle are important, but the most important thing is the service provided precisely at the necessary time. Volvo Trucks’ ‘Gold Service Agreement’, which we are introducing for the first time today, will provide services to ensure that vehicles are always in the best condition and operate for the maximum available time through 31 service networks nationwide with upgraded service coverage.”

Meanwhile, the new Volvo FH Aero truck is proving its competitiveness in the European market where it was first launched. In July, Volvo Trucks received an order for 1,500 Volvo FH Aero trucks from Italian transport and logistics company Lanuti Group, and in August, 300 Volvo FH Aero trucks from global transport company DSV. Lanuti Group announced plans to replace some of its 2,500 long-haul logistics trucks with Volvo FH Aero trucks.

Key features of the new Volvo FH Aero

Equipped with the new Volvo D17 engine with 17 liters and 780 horsepower
The new Volvo FH16 is equipped with the all-new Volvo D17 engine. In particular, it boasts 17 liters of 780 horsepower with excellent performance and increased durability. The Volvo FH16 engine, which is the most powerful in Europe, has shown that fuel efficiency is about 5% higher than the previous model, and torque is increased by 7% while reducing exhaust gas according to actual road tests. This is the optimal combination to increase efficiency and productivity even in demanding and diverse transport tasks, and it also has the advantage of being able to run on 100% renewable biofuel.

Aerodynamic design optimizes fuel efficiency

The front of the Volvo FH Aero has been lengthened by 24 cm compared to the existing Volvo FH model to reduce air resistance. The corners have been designed to be streamlined to minimize air resistance and reduce fuel loss. It also enables more stable driving in windy environments.

Providing a more comfortable and safe driving environment through the camera monitoring system (CMS)
The Volvo FH Aero replaces the existing side mirrors with a camera monitoring system. This not only reduces air resistance but also significantly improves driving stability. The camera monitoring system allows the driver to secure a wider field of vision, increasing the safety of not only the driver but also other road users.

In particular, it is possible for the driver to secure a more stable field of vision even in environments where it is difficult to secure a field of vision through the outside side mirrors, such as under direct sunlight, in rain, at night, or driving in a tunnel. The ‘night mode’ using infrared boasts a high degree of perfection and effectively helps secure peripheral vision even when driving at night.

It also includes a panning function that illuminates a wider radius considering the trailer’s rotation and the driver’s field of vision when turning. When backing up, the reverse panning function provides a wider field of view.
