Here, a Porsche 996 with nice headlights

The solution to controversial design aspects is here with a Porsche 996 that has nice headlights.

You won’t hear the undersigned say anything about the Porsche 996 in a negative way, and the fact that 996 owner Wouter talks about my salary has nothing to do with that (really not). But seriously, the problem is actually not that big. The Porsche 996 is very good in terms of lines, it was a perfect revolution for the 911, which looked more like an evolution. And those lamps, well, they are also a thing of their time.

‘Good’ 996 headlights

There are people who still cannot forgive Porsche for the 996. Too bad, but that is one of the reasons that the 996 is now the entry-level 911. You won’t find them cheaper! That’s why we now have a used car that solves all your problems. This Porsche 996 used car simply has round headlights.

Swap

Because of the import license plate, 997 Turbo rims and therefore the front, you might think: what is 996 about this? Great, then they got you. A 996 was taken and the entire front of a 997 pre-facelift was glued on, including the rims of a 997 Turbo. In fact, a 997 is already a way to find out what a 996 with round headlights would have looked like, but the combination so swapped makes it clear how small the differences are between the two generations.

The only thing you don’t get is the rear, engine and interior of the 997. Which would normally reduce the price, more about that in a moment. First the basics. Apart from the 997 conversion, it is a pre-facelift 996 from 2000. A Carrera 4, that is, with the 3.4 and a Tiptronic gearbox. Good for 301 hp. Oh yes, and it’s a convertible, in blue with a blue top. Cool!

The idea behind this conversion is less cool, given the price. It costs more than the cheapest 997s at 29,900 euros. Why would you buy a half-baked 997 and not a real one? And if the 996 is on the rise, you actually want an original copy. So who would find such a conversion interesting? We do not know.

To buy

Anyway, the car looks great, with 165k on the clock it still has more than enough life left in it and let’s be honest: it’s a funny idea. Funny enough for 30 backs? Decide for yourself.

“…with 165k on the clock, there is still more than enough life left in it”

Provided it is demonstrably neatly maintained.

    *Cough* IMS lower
