BREAK: Audi is now more BMW than BMW

BREAK: Audi is now more BMW than BMW

The fact that Audi builds better BMWs than BMW is quite special. The Q6 e-tron performance is a good example of this.

Today is hard car news day. Especially when it comes to German and Premium, the mailbox was overflowing this morning. BMW had some news, the price of the updated Porsche 911 is known and oh, BMW had a lot of changes.

Now Audi is making its contribution. While BMW occasionally struggles to apply its brand values in these times of downsizing, sustainability and platform sharing, Audi is doing well.

Because while BMW is working more and more with front-wheel drives (1 Series, 2 Series Active Tourer, 2 Series Gran Coupé, X1 and X2), Audi is taking a different path. The brand with the four rings has seen the light and uses rear-wheel drive more often. For example, the Audi Q4 e-tron has premium rear-wheel drive as standard and the Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT are primarily rear-wheel drive.

326 hp on the rear wheels!

Now there is even a performance version of Audi with rear-wheel drive. it’s about the Audi Q6 e-tron performance. Now that’s a very appropriate name! So it is not an ‘S’ or ‘RS’, but a ‘performance’. The idea is that the performance is not only faster, but also has a longer driving range. This works, because thanks to the 100 kWh battery you can reach 641 km on a full battery (according to the WLTP of course). Fast charging is also possible with this battery: up to 270 kW.

The Audi Q6 e-tron performance has an electric motor on the rear axle that delivers 326 hp and delivers it to only the rear wheels. Or well, 326 hp, that’s not entirely correct. In normal circumstances you have 306 hp at your disposal, but there is an overboost function to 326 hp with launch control. If you use that function, you can sprint to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.

That is more than fast enough, but relatively slow for an EV with the addition of ‘performance’. The top speed is irrelevant with EVs, but you can keep up quite well on the Autobahn at 210 km/h. Perhaps more importantly: you are allowed to tow up to 2,000 kg with brakes and that is not bad.

Price Audi Q6 e-tron performance

The price of the Audi Q6 e-tron performance is 71,950 euros. If you really want to have four-wheel drive, that is possible. The quattro variant costs 77,950 euros. You can also choose from three versions. In principle, the e-tron Edition is more than complete enough, but looks a bit basic. Then the neighbors will think that you are doing badly and you don’t want that.

S Edition

The Advanced Edition (77,950 euros) has better LED headlights, S-Line exterior package, parking assistant plus and adaptive cruise control. Then there is also the S Edition and in addition to the S Line exterior package, it also has the S-Line interior package, Matrix headlights, 20-inch alloy jets, sports seats and ‘sports sound’. That’s probably a recording of my little nephew reading Michel Vaillant comic books. VROOOAAR!!!

You can order the Audi Q6 e-tron performance from May 30 (that’s tomorrow!). Configuration is already possible.
