Skoda Elroq: first drive in the prototype

New electric SUV from Skoda coming in spring 2025
Skoda Elroq: first drive in the prototype

The Sokda Elroq, an electric version of the popular Karoq, is in the starting blocks. We drove a camouflaged version of the electric SUV.

The sale of E-cars is currently anything but good in Germany. Many manufacturers are groaning. Skoda, on the other hand, is reporting comparatively good figures. The Czechs have so far sold 250,000 units of their only electric model Enyaq sold.

The SUV will also be one of the best-selling electric cars in Germany in the first half of 2024. It therefore makes sense to expand the electric portfolio – the compact SUV Elroq is in the starting blocks.

World premiere on October 1st

The world premiere is on October 1st, and the electric car will be available in dealerships from spring 2025. Car Whiz has already driven a prototype that is almost ready for production.

There are still a few secrets about the car. The entire car is covered with camouflage foil, the software on the 13-inch series screen is not yet up to date, and the logo in the middle of the steering wheel (behind which is the 5-inch cockpit display) is not yet visible.

The new Skoda Elroq – still camouflaged here – is scheduled to come onto the market in spring 2025.

The Elroq will be the first model in the Czech manufacturer’s new Modern Solid design. The well-known Skoda logo will even disappear to make room for a new bonnet lettering.

The silver radiator grille has also served its purpose and is being replaced by the tech deck face. The company has only shown a little bit of what this will look like so far. A narrow strip contains the indicators and parking lights, behind which sensors, cameras and radar for the assistance systems are hidden.

Among them are the comparatively small headlights, which, despite their minimal dimensions, deliver the brightest light to date thanks to the latest technology.

Entry-level model with 55 kWh battery

The compact SUV is mainly powered by rear-wheel drive – depending on the drive variant. The entry-level model Elroq 50 has a gross battery capacity of 55 kWh, with an electric motor (126 kW) on the rear axle. The Elroq 60 has a 63 kWh battery and a 150 kW electric motor. Both have a top speed of 160 km/h.

The Elroq 85 and 85x variants are equipped with an 82 kWh battery. The Elroq 85 achieves a peak output of 210 kW, while the Elroq 85x has an additional electric motor on the front axle and thus offers all-wheel drive and a peak output of 220 kW as standard.

Comfortable driving experience: Car Whiz has already driven the Elroq.

These two variants reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The range (WLTP) is more than 560 kilometers. However, the Elroq can only be charged with a maximum of 175 kW, which should be enough for a charging time of 10 to 80 percent in under 28 minutes.

The E-SUV’s spaciousness impresses

Where there is a big gap missing here, the Elroq’s space is impressive. Even though the car is 17 cm shorter than the Enyaq, it has the same wheelbase and correspondingly plenty of space in the interior. Even at 1.90 m, you can sit comfortably in the rear. The trunk holds 470 liters and can be expanded to up to 1580 liters.

Cool gimmick: With the Skoda app, the SUV can be parked in and out – without sitting in the car. Perfect when the parking space is too narrow to get in or out. The charging cable is stored in a net under the trunk cover.

And how does the Elroq drive?

As you would expect from an electric car, the Elroq also has a fast drive. It glides along smoothly, sits well on the road and offers a comfortable driving experience. The steering responds directly and the brakes work well. This makes driving an SUV fun.

Skoda is still keeping a low profile on prices. However, company sources say that prices will rise Karoq This means that entry should be possible for well under 35,000 euros.
