After 11 years a second Aston Martin V12 Zagato on yellow plates!

After 11 years a second Aston Martin V12 Zagato on yellow plates!

A name we like to see in combination with Aston Martin: Zagato. The Netherlands is now richer by another special example.

Yes indeed, another Aston Martin V12 Zagato has been registered in the Netherlands! The V12 Zagato was presented in 2011 during the Villa d’Este concours, where it immediately received the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes. The model was made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic DB4 Zagato. The basis was the V12 Vantage, with each copy being built by hand at the headquarters in Gaydon and with a body made of aluminium and carbon.

Only 65 units were eventually made, but the car that received the Dutch license plate in July is a very special one. It is namely ‘Number 1’! Delivered new in Switzerland in the beautiful color Alloro Green, with a two-tone interior in Sahara Tan and Arctic Blue. The car was auctioned at RM Sotheby’s in 2019 with only 275 km on the clock, but was not sold then. In January of this year a new attempt was made, now with 1,228 km on the clock and a German registration, and now there was a buyer, who eventually paid € 455,000 for it. That is less than the original price, because the registered catalogue price at the RDW is namely € 612,592.

This means that a second V12 Zagato has appeared on Dutch plates. The first one has been on Dutch plates since new (2013). That copy, finished in Carbon Black, has number 077, which is actually quite special, since only 65 of them were built. However, the original plan was to realize a run of 150 pieces, so it was possible to reserve a number when buying. In this case it was a reference to the Aston Martin One-77. By the way, if you are interested in this V12 Zagato, it is currently for sale for €475,000.

Aston Martin DB12 Volante

Let’s take a look at the other Aston Martins that appeared on Dutch license plates in July. There were 18 of them, of which only one was brand new, a green DB12 Volante with a registered catalogue price of €382,640.

You would actually expect that more new Aston Martins would be sold in the Netherlands. In 2023, Aston Martin produced 6,620 cars, of which 27 were sold in the Netherlands. If you compare that with Ferrari, for example: 13,633 cars in total, of which 83 in the Netherlands. So slightly better than Aston Martin.

DBS Superleggera

Fortunately, there are still quite a few ‘second-hand’ Aston Martins coming to the Netherlands, seventeen in July. In addition to the V12 Zagato, there are three beautiful classics, a DB4 and two DB5‘s.

From the first decade of this century we come a DB9 Volante and a DBS against, both in black and both from 2008. Slightly newer are a DBS Volante from 2010 and a Vanquish Volante from 2014, both in gray.

Most of the powerful Astons that were registered in July have the name DBS SuperleggeraThis concerns a gray coupe from 2020 and a green ‘Volante’ from April 2024.

You might expect these two cars to be the most expensive when you look at the registered new price, but that is not the case. This month, the honor at Aston Martin goes to a 2023 Vantage Roadster that is equipped with the V12. The price tag shows an impressive amount of €485,821.

Finally, here are the other copies that were registered: a green DB11 Volante from 2019, a white DB12 from 2023, a gray DBX from 2021, a green DBX 707 from 2023 and finally twice a Vantage (V8) from 2021, in black and gray.

Bentley

In July, two brand new examples were registered in the Netherlands from Bentley’s factories: a Continental GT V8 Azure and a Continental GTC V8 S.

Twelve more Bentleys were subsequently provided with a new Dutch license plate via the import. Two were given a classic license plate, namely a Mark VI from 1948 and a fancy one R-Type Continental from 1952. What also stood out was a blue Azure from 2007, when a 6.8 liter V12 was still ‘normal’.

And certainly not to forget: a green Continental GTC Speed from February 2024, equipped with a 6 liter V12 that squeezes out 660 hp. The price tag? €448,759!

Land Rover

In July, 541 Land Rovers – sometimes also listed as Jaguar Land Rovers at the RDW – were provided with a new Dutch license plate. Almost half of these were completely new cars.

To pick out a few details: twice a Range Rover P615 SV registered, with 615 HP still quite impressive. Even a little more power has the Range Rover Sport P635 SV Edition One with, you guessed it, 635 HP. Three of these appeared on the registration. They are all expensive, they have a new price of about 3 tons.

Lotus

Eleven new Lotuses appeared on the registration plate in July, an Emira, an Emeya and nine Eletres. From the import it was the slow season, with only a blue Elan Plus 2 from 1974 and a blue one Elise R from 2005.

McLaren Artura Spider

Two McLarens were fitted with new yellow plates in July and both came straight from the factory. In addition to a white 750S Spider, it is the very first Artura Spider on yellow plates. A beautiful six-cylinder hybrid with two turbos, which can squeeze out 690 hp and 719 Nm. And that with a weight of 1,457 kg, certainly not bad for an open version that is only 61 kilos heavier than the closed version. And the price tag of this example? €366,690, more than a ton cheaper than the 750S Spider that was registered.

Morgan

On August 1, 743 Morgans were registered. Of the Plus Four (no, not the +4, but the Plus Four) there are now 26. Two of them were registered in July, both brand new. One in green, the other in gray. By the way, this is not yet about the facelift, we still have to wait for that.

Rolls-Royce

Finally, we look at Rolls-Royce. The RDW was able to register two completely new copies, both of the type Spectre. This brings the number of Spectres with yellow plates to 18, not bad for a car costing around half a million euros!

They were also able to provide three Rolls-Royces with a classic license plate at the RDW: a stately Phantom III Saloon from 1937 (equipped with a 7.3 liter V12!), a Silver Cloud from 1958 and a Silver Shadow from 1974.

It didn’t stop there, because three other Rolls-Royces received a new license plate in July: a blue Silver Shadow from 1980, a red one Silver Spur from 1982 and a yellow Corniche from 1983. And now that you read the word ‘yellow’: of the 1,547 Rolls-Royces with Dutch license plates, 26 copies have been given the color designation ‘yellow’ by the RDW.

So auction price (no doubt without additional costs) was 455,000, car is now for sale for 475,000.
So again a loss instead of added value…..
