Another company pulls in EV poop

After Mercedes, another company is now postponing its EV goals.

All car manufacturers have very ambitious EV targets, but some are already slowing down a bit. For example, Mercedes had to have half of all cars sold electrified by 2025, but that was not going to happen. That is why they recently postponed this target by 5 years.

Now, European manufacturers are dealing with the EU’s targets, but US manufacturers also have ambitious targets. General Motors wanted to sell 1 million EVs in the US by 2025, while they are actually just getting started with EVs.

What do you think? GM is also pulling out all the stops. CEO Mary Barra (yes, a female CEO) tells CNBC. She says that growth is “slowing down a little bit” and the market is not developing. That’s why they’re abandoning the 1 million EV goal.

You might wonder if GM even has EVs, but they do. Chevrolet has an electric Blazer, Equinox and Silverado. Cadillac is also going all-in on electric, with the Lyriq, Optiq and the electric Escalade iQ. And of course, there’s the most American EV of them all: the Hummer EV.

Ms. Barra is quick to say that EVs are still fantastic. And that million? They will definitely reach it, just a little later than planned. According to the big boss of General Motors.

Thing is, an affordable good EV sells, just look at the model 3 and Y. But try developing an affordable and good EV, produce a million of them, and then also make a profit. That’s what they’re up against.

Kudos to GM, a bit of a shame that they still praise those monsters to the skies, a bit strange if you lower your goals at the same time….

Ultimately, a global movement has been initiated, but the fact that the tipping point lies further in the future does not change that.

It’s pretty much hopeless to try to swim against that global current. [no pun intended, want stroom is een gevolg van spanning]

Okay okay I get it, the physics formula for electric charge i=q/t
But can we just stop trying to cram those i’s and q’s into the names of our models?

We don’t still use the C or H in the name for petrol cars all the time (C8H18 = Octane = Petrol) or the J for Joule etc etc….
