Aston Martin Vantage gets new life

The new Vantage model gets a proper overhaul which, among other things, means bigger turbos, more horsepower and a much-needed facelift.

Aston Martin has manufactured the Vantage model for 74 years. The latest edition, which has been available since 2018, is now undergoing a comprehensive update.

The new Vantage not only looks better than its predecessor; it has also received a number of mechanical improvements. This includes a new camshaft, modified chassis and revised gears. Yes, it has had quite a ride.

AMG continues to deliver

The result of all these mechanical updates is impressive. The Mercedes-born V8 engine now produces a whopping 656 hp, which is no less than 156 hp more than before the update.

The AMG piano under the hood is assisted by an 8-speed automatic gearbox from Germany’s ZF, which supplies gearboxes for everything from Alfa Romeo to Rolls Royce. The gearbox sends all 656 hp to the rear wheels via an electronic limited slip differential. The new update means that the Vantage now does 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The new top speed is set at 325 km/h.

Aston Martin says that the new updates not only make the car faster, but also more fun to sit behind the wheel in. The new model has a 7% stiffer chassis, which will provide a more controlled driving experience in the sharp turns.

A modern touch

Inside there is a new and updated touchscreen. The screen is 10.25 inches, while the system has been developed with a focus on modernizing the experience for both driver and passenger with new smart functions. Fortunately, Aston Martin has not gone all in on digitalisation, so there are physical buttons for functions such as traction control and open/close the dampers on the exhaust (also called the binoculars button).

Production of the new Vantage will start in the coming weeks, and the first deliveries are expected to arrive later this summer. No official prices have been announced yet, but it is expected that there will be a price increase as a result of this extensive update.

It has not yet been announced whether there will be even wilder versions of the new Vantage, as previously seen in the form of the track-focused AMR version or the F1 edition.
