The successor model of the Audi A4, the new A5, has been revealed ahead of its launch. The Audi A5, which announced its launch through a teaser photo on the 12th (local time), is based on the new PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform. Audi plans to give odd-numbered model names to internal combustion engine vehicles and even-numbered model names to electric vehicles.
The new Audi A5 is the model that announces the start of Audi’s next-generation internal combustion engine lineup. The PPC platform is an upgraded version of the existing MLB platform, and will be applied to the upcoming full-change models, the A5 and Q5. Audi plans to release the A6 e-tron, the successor to the A6, the new A5, and the new Q5 in 2024.
According to overseas IT media Ars Technica, the new A5 will be equipped with a high-efficiency 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine (268 horsepower), while the new S5 will be equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 gasoline turbo engine (362 horsepower). The A5 and S5 will increase efficiency through variable geometry turbochargers and the Miller cycle.
The A5 is equipped with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and either front-wheel drive (FF) or all-wheel drive (AWD) systems, while the S5 uses a dedicated quattro system and a torque converter transmission. The mild hybrid system adds 24 horsepower and starts without starting the engine when accelerating.
In particular, it is designed based on a significantly improved digital neural network system through a high-performance computing platform called HCP5. The interior is equipped with an infotainment system with three screens, which is capable of fast operation and supports OLED displays. A head-up display is also applied.
