Audi S3 is again in ruins after crashing in a forest area

Despite the Quattro, this Audi S3 is in trouble again.

It’s almost time. Hell has frozen over. Audi will finally become premium in the foreseeable future. The brand has been owned by Volkswagen since 1965 and was marketed as the luxury division of the group. However, underneath there was often a lot in common with ‘normal’ Volskwagens. With rare exceptions, Audis were always basically front-wheel drive. True experts know that this is of course never really premium.

Quattro

To mitigate this, Quattro was introduced. Nowadays, all kinds of cars have four-wheel drive. But for a long time, only Audi and Subaru regularly did ‘AWD’. The smaller models also have ‘Quattro’ in name. Although true experts will say that a Haldex coupling is not the same as a Torsen diff.

That all-wheel drive is a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you inevitably have more grip, especially under suboptimal conditions. On the other hand, it also potentially gives a false sense of security. At the end of the grip of rubber, a four-wheel drive car also slides unceremoniously down the road.

Forest area

In the forest area between Barneveld and Terschuur on the Kallenbroekerweg, a young driver collided hard with a tree around 3:30 PM. It is a single-vehicle accident on a bend. Unfortunately, the driver had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. The damage to the car is significant and the collision closed the Kallenbroekerweg to traffic. According to the police on the scene, it concerns a novice driver.

Not the first blow

According to our ever-sharp archivist, it is not the first time that the Audi S3 has experienced a major accident. The front of the S3 was also in ruins in 2017, at the time in Alblasserdam after an accident with a Fiat Punto. Go hard with four-wheel drive; so it’s tempting. But the technology doesn’t make you immune to a hit.

It seems to me that you have to go a lot harder to lose traction? Unless cheap Chinese tires are underneath.

novice driver in such a car ………………….. failed driving test for potential burglary? Fortunately no others were hit.

It’s that this thing is now a total loss, otherwise I would have gambled on another hit in Drenthe, continuing the imaginary line on the map.

    Japie, real experts?
People with sense choose front-wheel drive, much safer.
All that rushing around with rear wheel drive leads to cars going in all directions except the right one. We’re not all called Max.

I also think that this accident is more likely to be due to the (grossly overestimated) capabilities of the novice driver than to the characteristics of the drivetrain in question.

My name may not be Max, but I have driven several RWD cars. That started with driving lessons in a BMW 3 series. Much later a 944 came along. No ABS, ESP, traction control and other electronic nannies to keep you on the road. The 944 is still there, and was joined for a time by an Alfa Giulia and now a Tesla M3 with RWD.

None of the cars I mentioned did anything crazy. You just shouldn’t be rude with it, but that also applies to Audis. You also need to have some feeling in your butt so that you can feel what the car is going to do. Then there is nothing to worry about.

300 HP and a novice driver is simply not a good combination.

This S3 started its life as a demo in Pon’s basement. I had this one with me once, it contained almost the entire booklet. Too bad he had to end like this.
