Finally, the Audi S3 has become a real cracker, as we experienced in a prototype.

The updated Audi A3 is on its way. And with the facelift there will also be an S3 and later – hopefully – an RS3. With the Audi S3 facelift, Wouter was already able to steer a bit in Oman. We must add that it was a prototype. The final product may therefore differ on a few points. Just like the outgoing model, the facelift will be available as a hatchback and as a limousine.

This also means that not much can be said about the Audi S3 facelift yet. Except about the driving, which is important with an S model. The hot hatchback has the same 2.0 TFSI as before, but a small upgrade in power.

With the facelift, the block now produces 23 hp and 20 Nm more. This brings the Audi S3 facelift to 333 hp and 420 Nm of torque. That maximum torque is available between 2,100 and 5,500 rpm.

The S3 sprints to 100 in 4.7 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h. Audi has made a number of improvements with regard to performance. There is more compression on the clutch, for even faster shifting times. You can see how that works and what it feels like in Wouter’s Audi S3 prototype test video.

Just like the Audi RS3, the S3 facelift also has a torque splitter. This technology can distribute the torque to the rear wheels in a completely variable manner. This results in noticeably less understeer and the car, as it were, pushes you through a bend due to that distribution of power. A stronger improvement for the Audi S3.

The Audi drive select mode has also been updated. New is the arrival of a dynamic plus mode. In this mode the car sends as much power as possible to the rear. Because the Audi S3 is, as you probably know, a hot hatch with all-wheel drive.

Important improvements for the Audi S3 facelift. Of course, the exterior has been refined and the model has a refreshed interior. Nothing can be said about that yet. You’ll have to wait for the official reveal for that.
