BYD introduces electric cars with extreme fast charging function

Charging the electric car to 80 percent in the shortest possible time – this should be possible with the second generation of BYD’s Blade battery. All the information!

Apart from the high costs of electric vehicles, there is one main problem that many customers are not prepared to buy: Where do I charge the vehicle – and how flexible am I with that? If you don’t have a Wall box If you can install a solar panel on your house, you have to get the energy from a public charging station However, charging electric cars usually takes significantly longer than refueling a combustion engine vehicle.

The automotive industry is trying to counteract these problems with various technologies. There are now vehicles such as the Zeekr001which charge the integrated battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 11.5 minutes thanks to the so-called 5C technology. Competitor BYD is now taking this to the next level!

6C charging technology: How it works

According to consistent reports, the Chinese carmaker is planning to launch the second generation of its Blade battery. It is to be based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and to be capable of so-called 6C charging. This means that the batteries can be charged with a charging power six times higher than their kilowatt-hour capacity. For the driver, this means that the charge level of 80 percent is reached after just ten minutes.

Introduction in the second half of the year

According to the information available, BYD plans to launch its new battery generation in the second half of 2024. The Chinese carmaker therefore still has enough time to provide the necessary infrastructure. Charging stations that 4C or 5C are still rare – even in China. It is currently unclear which vehicle will be the first to benefit from the new power storage system.
