Now begins the Kia EV5 – an answer to the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID. 4 – launched around the world. Here’s a thorough rundown of features and spaces.
From the beginning, the Kia EV5 was conceived as a slimmed-down Kia EV9 for the Chinese market. Now it has been decided that the Kia EV5 will also be launched in Australia in June and it looks like we too will have the opportunity to buy the car eventually.
The Kia EV5 is classified as a medium-sized SUV and thus becomes a direct competitor to cars such as the Volkswagen ID. 4, Ford Exporer and Tesla Model Y. It is clear that Kia has gone hard on the SUV track and made a spacious car with many practical functions.
The EV5 is 462 cm long (40 cm less than the EV9) and can be compared in terms of size to an electric Kia Sportage. The close relationship with EV9 and EV6 means modern technology, 800 volts, V2L and fast charging.
There are three battery sizes. For the front-wheel drive versions (218 hp), either a cheaper LFP battery of 64 kWh and a larger Li-Ion battery of 88 kWh are sold. The smaller one can be charged daily to 100 percent without damage and the larger one can charge faster.
The four-wheel drive model (95 + 218 hp) has two motors and a 70 kWh battery. The system output is 306 horsepower.

Going forward, Kia will also launch an even smaller SUV called the Kia EV3 and a smaller version of the Kia EV6 called the Kia EV4.
