Cool and box-shaped: New Hyundai Santa Fe from DKK 569,995.

New Hyundai Santa Fe is completely different from the old one. It now comes to Denmark as a PHEV with 253 horsepower and four-wheel drive at prices from DKK 569,995.

Sales of plug-in hybrids in Denmark are now modest, but there is still some discount to be had on the registration tax for car brands that choose to sell a partially electrified car in Denmark. There is typically more power than in a corresponding petrol version of a car.

And if you look at a car like the new Skoda Kodiaq, you get the PHEV with 204 horsepower for DKK 50,000 less than the petrol version with 150 horsepower. The PHEV also has an electric range of up to 113 kilometers.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid does not have quite that long a range, and 54 kilometers is underwhelming for a brand new and large PHEV. The new Santa Fe, which is on its way to Denmark, will instead be sold on its sensational design and extensive standard equipment.

Prices start at DKK 569,995, and Hyundai has put together three different equipment variants: the basic Advanced model, which is surpassed in equipment by the Ultimate and Calligraphy variants.

Seven seats in all versions of the Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid

If you see the old Santa Fe and the new one next to each other, you’d think the two cars come from different manufacturers – and different decades. The old one has round shapes – the new one is angular like a LEGO brick.

Edges mean better spaciousness and (perhaps) better visibility in traffic, and on the Santa Fe it also means a huge tailgate, which opens up very good access to the up to 1,942 liter luggage compartment.

Seven seats are standard in all versions of the new Santa Fe, and you don’t have to pay extra for four-wheel drive either. There is no new engine, but a slight reduction in the total output of the petrol and electric motor: 253 horsepower against the old model’s 265 horsepower. 54 kilometers is, as already mentioned, the electric range, and the consumption is 58.8 km/l, if you remember to charge up and drive a lot on electricity.

Hyundai has not made the new PHEV a model for the camping or horse people. Only something that does not exceed 1,010 kilos can be fastened to the hook. This is something that can limit sales in Denmark, because only small caravans weigh less than 1,010 kilos.

Calligraphy is Hyundai language for everything included

As I said, the standard equipment does not fail. In the Advanced version for DKK 569,995, you do not compromise on either comfort or safety. There are 20″ alloy wheels, electrically operated tailgate, adaptive cruise control, 12.3″ digital instrumentation, infotainment with 12.3″ touchscreen, wireless charging of a smartphone, automatic climate control with three zones, electrically adjustable front seats, heated steering wheel and length-adjustable seats in the second row.

Ultimate costs DKK 634,995, and here Hyundai also includes a 360-degree camera, Bose sound system, wireless charging of two smartphones, leather upholstery, ventilation in the front seats, head-up display, active blind spot system, remote-controlled parking, heat-absorbing windscreen, ceiling and sunshades covered with suede and mood lighting. Digital rear-view mirror (DKK 6,995), digital key (DKK 5,995) and Relaxion reclining front seats (DKK 5,995) are optional extras.

At Hyundai, it doesn’t get any finer than the Calligraphy equipment level. It is not possible to buy additional equipment, because everything is standard in the variant, which costs DKK 679,995. The exterior is slightly different with black details, grill in dark chrome and black 20″ alloy wheels. Inside, there is an electrically operated steering column, Premium Relaxion reclining front seats, digital rear view mirror, nappa leather upholstery and UV disinfecting storage compartment.

The towbar is retrofitted in Denmark, and it is available in a Start package as a swingable or removable towbar. Pivoting tow costs DKK 29,995, while removable tow costs DKK 19,995.
