Cupra Terramar: the better Tiguan?

Cupra Terramar: the better Tiguan?

The neighbor already has a Tiguan, so would you choose the Terramar?

Look, there it is, shining in front of the Car Whiz camera and on the press photos of Cupra itself. The new Cupra Terramar. Where should you place this car next to the Formentor? We’ll just call it once, this is the Tiguan of Cupra. Well, that’s it. Built on the MQB Evo platform, the Terramar is currently only available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

You can choose from 2 power versions. The 1.5 TSI petrol engine and the electric motor can reach 150 kW / 204 hp OR 200 kW / 272 hp. The latter can be found in the Terramar VZ Performance. The most expensive version of this model. Yes, the Dutch prices are known immediately and you can read them at the bottom of this article.

The specs are what we want to know of course. Lately, VAG has been conjuring up exceptionally high range figures from its Plug-ins. Here too, we can note a hefty 120 km (WLTP) electric range. Cupra gets this from the 19.7 kW battery pack. With a 50 kW fast charger, you can charge it from 10 to 80% in 26 minutes. Home charging is possible with 11 kW.

And how fast is the fastest version? The VZ Performance version reaches 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. And the top speed is a very modest 215 km/h, so you can’t go very far on the Autobahn. On the VZ Performance version you can optionally order the Akebono performance brake system, so that you can brake with the best when you inevitably end up in that winter sports traffic jam during the spring break.

Wouter tells you more about the styling and interior in the video we were able to make of the Terramar.

Terramar VZ Performance America’s Cup

Ah yes, special editions, we love them. From the Golf Rolling Stones to the Volvo V40 Ocean Race. Cupra is now taking over that nautical theme. The Terramar was introduced today during the America’s Cup race off the coast of Barcelona.

What’s special about this version besides some badges? It only comes in the VZ Performance version, so only in the 272 hp version. The version comes in a limited edition of 1,337 units worldwide. As an extra, it has 20 inch rims, Matrix LED lighting, the Sennheiser sound system, a panoramic sliding tilting sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats with memory and customized interior upholstery (leather), with stitching in copper color. And it has an America’s Cup logo on the B-pillar.

  1. slobber say

7.3 sec acceleration is disappointing with 272hp, right? Is that right?

    • martive say

That’s right, it’s even on the Cupra website. It’s disappointing for a brand that profiles itself as the sporty VAG product.

  2. you say

Beautiful thing, I must say! And cool, all those sporty elements. Better CUPRA than Volkswagen, Skoda, Ford or Peugeot
