Only the imagination sets limits

Scarbo Vintage is the kind of California car builder who is absolutely unstoppable once he’s got an idea.

The idea that made me discover them was that Joe Scarbo was going to build something that made me think of Ferrari’s Formula 1 cars from the 60s.

I don’t know what it was, but roll bars and a very obvious V8 engine with very conspicuous air intakes made it look like a parody.

Beautiful work, of course, but still a travesty.

Then they built the Porsche that became known as the “Hoonipigasus” when Ken Block used it as a stunt car.

And now they’re here with something they call the SV Rover.

Macho

A two-door, two-seater body that leaves no doubt that this is about muscle, but there is also no doubt that the occasional hardcore Land Rover has also inspired.

Aluminum and carbon all the way, with fenders that look like they were added after the fact when you finally decided that these wheels were not just wide, but WIDE!

Here there is no sloppy alignment, no, here it is the macho impression that applies.

1100 horses

In the middle/rear is a 1100 horsepower V8 engine with an 8-speed gearbox, lockable front and rear diff, front-wheel steering with 40-inch off-road tires stopped by carbon discs and an adjustable pushrod suspension – pure racing car really – which sits well inboard and which can give you up to 75 cm of suspension travel.

By the way, there will also be a version with batteries and electricity. 1005 horses, a motor on each axle and batteries of 75 kWt.

Let’s hope it can be emergency charged on solar cells and merciless desert sun.

Inside we see a digital instrument cluster and an equally large infotainment screen, with some planks as decorations, but mostly it’s just plates.

Two bucket seats from Sparco are covered in Alcantara and you can surround yourself with artificial air from the AC system.

No word on how many Scarbo plans to build. Nothing about the price either, but since the Porsche is priced at $935,000, this one will probably be able to top the million mark.

If so, I certainly see even more possibilities for the Boot from Scuderia Glickenhaus. After all, it costs “only” $260,000 and can also be delivered as a four-seater.
