More than half of electric car owners, 54 percent, believe that range anxiety is an inflated problem, and not something that should be a decisive factor when driving an electric car. Exhaust car owners disagree.
A majority of the respondents thus rarely or never feel that range is a problem. This is according to a survey carried out by the charging box company Zaptec together with Sifo.
The survey was conducted in two parts, with the first part consisting of 1,082 people aged 18-79, who drive a vehicle powered by petrol, diesel or gas. The second part consisted of 1,032 people in the same age range but who drive an electric car or plug-in hybrid.
The percentage of electric car owners who expressed range anxiety was no more than 12 percent.
– Despite the fact that some electric car owners are worried about the range of their car, there are significantly more people who do not feel range anxiety to any great extent. Relatively many even drive long distances without problems, says John Wastring, CEO of Zaptec, according to a press release.
Almost half of those who drive exhaust gas cars, 45 percent, state, however, that range anxiety is the biggest reason why they do not “take the step” to electric operation.
It is interesting to mention in this context that the surveyed electric car owners believe that range is a more important factor than the range of public charging points. This figure is 56 percent.
Longer distances with an electric car than with an exhaust car
When asked how many trips they make that are longer than 20 miles one-way, 31 percent of electric car owners answered that they make an average of eleven such trips per year. Of which only 19 percent of exhaust car owners do the same.
