Ferrari F40 with V12 engine: the world-unique car can be yours

Now a race-prepped V12-equipped F40 is going up for auction. Several other legendary cars are sold at the same time, including one driven by rally driver Björn Waldegård.

During the Silverstone Festival 2024, a series of fabulous auctions will begin. On August 23rd, you’ll have the chance to get your hands on some of the world’s most impressive racing and rally cars. Or how about a Porsche 911 from 1975, built for rallying and driven by none other than Björn Waldegård?

Iconic Auctioneers list of cars going under the hammer will make everyone’s mouths water. More examples are rally cars like a Group A Ford Sierra RS500, a Group N Mitsubishi Galant RS Ralliart and an MG Metro 6R4 for the crazy Group B class.

Among the cars built for racing there are a few more greats. Including a BMW 3.5 CSL often called the “Batmobile” and a couple of different formula cars. And of course a 1992 Simpson-Ferrari V12 GTR.

The world’s only F40 with a V12

The crazy Ferrari came about when a client of UK-based Simpson Motorsport got hold of an F40 chassis. The operation was complicated and the result magnificent.

Instead of the twin turbo V8 that Ferrari equipped the F40 with, they chose an F133 V12 from a Ferrari 550 Maranello. The car also received a lightweight body similar to an F40 GTE, an FIA approved roll cage and specially built suspension.

The wheels were huge and at the front they were around 280 millimeters (11 in) wide. Rear almost 320 mm (12.5 in). Both front and rear diameter was 18 inches. In 2005, the car was updated and received a sequential six-speed Hewland NLT box.

The car’s aerodynamic details are well proportioned, to say the least.

Now if you’ve got the urge for this worst thing to the F40, it is expected that you will have to pay somewhere around 500,000 to 600,000 pounds plus tax and a little more. In Swedish kronor, it is about 10 million.

That may sound like a lot of money, but compare it to the Ferrari SP3 which has the most powerful V12 Ferrari has ever assembled in a road car. One of these cost around SEK 20 million and is available in a total of 599 copies. All copies are sold, of course.
