Ford Ranger Hybrid Unveiled, Eco-Friendly Pickup Truck

Ford unveiled the Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) on the 17th (local time). The Ranger PHEV is based on a 2.3 gasoline turbo engine, and combines an electric motor and a battery to produce a total output of 275 horsepower. It can travel up to 45 km in EV mode. It can also be powered by an external power source. Domestic release is yet to be determined.

The Ranger PHEV has been confirmed for launch in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The US and Korea have not been decided yet. The Ranger PHEV will be produced at the South African plant. The Ranger PHEV powertrain consists of a 2.3 gasoline turbo engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, an 11.8kWh battery, and an electric motor. The maximum towing capacity is 3,500kg.

The Ranger PHEV has a total output of 275 horsepower and a maximum torque of 70.4 kgm. It has higher performance than the regular Ranger gasoline and diesel. The Ranger PHEV can drive up to 45 km in EV mode. It supports regenerative braking and external power supply functions. The Ranger PHEV suspension has been tuned to consider weight distribution.

The Ranger PHEV is equipped with an e-4WD system with a transfer case and a rear differential lock. The exterior of the Ranger PHEV is the same as the regular model. However, a new Stormtrak trim has been created for the Ranger PHEV. The Ranger PHEV Stormtrak offers a dedicated exterior styling package.

Representative features include 18-inch wheels, a honeycomb-patterned front grille, a decal set, and side sills with PHEV lettering. It also comes with a full package including matrix LED headlamps, a 10-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, a 12-inch display, and a 360-degree surround view. It comes in gray and black exterior colors.
