Honda Prelude, ‘resurrected’ as a hybrid sports car in the 200 horsepower range

Some of Honda’s next-generation Prelude specifications have been revealed. According to Motor One, an overseas automobile media outlet, the next-generation Prelude uses an e:HEV system based on a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine like the Honda Accord and Civic Hybrid, producing 200 horsepower. The Prelude is a Honda sports car, and the new model will be unveiled at the end of next year.

The Prelude is Honda’s representative sports car along with the flagship supercar NSX. The first generation Prelude model has a long history, having been released in 1978. The Prelude was famous for its compact two-door front-wheel drive coupe. The next-generation Prelude, which has been confirmed for mass production, will be operated with a single hybrid powertrain.

The new Prelude is equipped with the e:HEV system based on the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine like the Honda Accord and Civic Hybrid. The e:HEV system consists of two small electric motors and a new lithium-ion battery pack. The new Prelude produces a total output of more than 207 horsepower, which is higher than that of the Accord and Civic.

In addition, the next-generation Prelude body size is 4300mm in length, 1790mm in width, 1300mm in height, and 2575mm wheelbase. It is larger than the Mazda MX-5 Miata, which is classified as a competing model of the new Prelude, and is similar to the Toyota GR 86. The new Prelude is based on the Prelude concept unveiled by Honda last year.

The Prelude concept car has a typical two-door coupe proportions with a long nose short deck that is long at the front and short at the rear. It is characterized by a roofline that drops sharply from the B-pillar and a rear glass window. It is equipped with a Brembo brake system with a 6P caliper at the front wheel.

A Honda official said about the Prelude concept car, “The Prelude concept car is a model that reflects production intentions. It will provide driving pleasure and a special excitement you have never felt before. As a sporty sports car, Honda continues development of the Prelude model. “It will be released as a hybrid,” he said.
