Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 is EVEN thicker

The Ioniq 5 N 5 eN1 cheerfully goes the extra mile.

It’s funny how a discussion arises about EVs, hybrids, diesels or petrol cars. In principle it is quite simple: a car is good or not good. The drivetrain is usually separate from this.

What we do miss a bit among the EVs are the character boxes. Special cars with special design and pleasant driving characteristics. Preferably with hardware that makes the petrolhead happy. Bigger wheels, more powerful brakes, more power, modified chassis. You know it. Hyundai delivers this with the (dirt-cheap) Ioniq 5 N.

Today they go a step further with the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup. In short, that is the racing version of the Ioniq 5 N. The basis is therefore identical. So an engine with 226 hp on the front axle and one with 383 hp on the rear axle. Together they produce 650 hp. The battery is also not a surprise: 84 kWh.

Now the Ioniq 5 N absolutely did not need more power. The device is already lightning fast. In any case, there are plenty of fast EVs. In many cases we would like to give up some power for more grip, feedback, feeling and some playful character.

But fortunately that is already quite the case with the Ioniq 5 N. In the case of this Ioniq 5 N it is a bit smoother. The chassis, for example: it is now equipped with adjustable dampers and springs. The camber can also be adjusted. According to Hyundai, the chassis is capable of withstanding several hours of abuse on a track.

The appearance is wonderfully thick. In this case, the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup has been fitted with a thick body kit. A very cool detail are the rims. EVs always have enormous cart wheels: therefore very narrow and high. In this case it is the other way around, because they measure no less than 11 inches in width! The diameter, on the other hand, is only 18 inches.

Naturally, the entire interior has been stripped to keep the weight as low as possible. That was a success, because this racer weighs only 1,970 kg. That seems like a lot (because it is a lot), but it’s mainly due to the battery.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup is solely intended for track use. There are no immediate racing plans, but Hyundai wants to use this car as a test case for electric racing cars. As far as we are concerned, the 1980s can be revived with Group A racing cars.

Soon, with the solid state batteries, you will be able to drive many hundreds of kilometers further on a single battery charge and charge 12x faster. It won’t be long before the simmering engine is over. They are already being attacked on all fronts.

“According to Hyundai, the chassis is capable of withstanding several hours of abuse on a track.” , so after a few hours on the track you can throw the car away….
It’s funny these kinds of projects and yes it’s damn fast, but I don’t know if I can get used to the (lack of) sound.

Get used to it, this is the future. The hypercars are already losing out to a Tesla in terms of pure acceleration and sometimes also at top speed, and in terms of consumption, a hypercar drinks like a herd of alcoholic elephants.
