Hyundai brings the Ioniq 5 in off-road look
In our case, the Facelift of the Ioniq 5 presented without much fanfare, but not in the USA. There, the facelift is accompanied by a completely new variant of the electric car. It has the additional name XRT and is positioned between the regular Ioniq5 and the N model.
Special pixel camouflage
Behind the three letters XRT lies an off-road version of the Hyundai i30 2019. This can be recognized at first glance by its skirts and planking. Large parts of it also have a very special pattern. The designers have converted the typical pixel look of the lights into a camouflage design with various shades of gray.
The entire front is dark up to the hood, the air intake on the XRT is a narrow rectangle that is closed off by a robust-looking grille. Even here, the pixel theme is carried through – it consists of many small squares. A red tow hook is embedded in it on the left and right. Visually connected to this: an implied underbody protection. This element is repeated at the rear. In addition, the adventure car getsIoniq5 blacked out logos and decorative elements.
More ground clearance and all-wheel drive
Befittingly, Hyundai The XRT also has more ground clearance and is 23 millimeters higher. With approach angles of 19.8 degrees at the front and 30 degrees at the rear, a real off-road excursion is still not advisable. Ioniq5 XRT is only available with all-wheel drive (325 hp) and the large Battery with 84 kWh.
The interior is full of XRT logos, and the pixel design of the aprons is repeated as trim on the door panels. There are also rubber floor mats and wipe-clean seat covers.
XRT is not coming to us
Before you get too excited: Hyundai is not planning to launch the Ioniq5 XRT in Germany. When asked by Car Whiz, a spokesperson said that this is a US-only model. It is not yet known how much the fun will cost.
Porsche has shown us how to do it with the Taycan Cross Turismo: electric cars and off-road elements are not mutually exclusive. Of course, the Ioniq 5 XRT is not a real off-road vehicle, but it is still a cool concept. It’s a shame that Hyundai won’t be offering it here.
