Ikea pays tribute to Ingvar Kamprad with a unique Volvo 245

There are few things that scream blue and yellow as much as Ikea and Volvo. And if you want to scream even louder, it’s just as well to combine both. All said and done when the Ikea Museum goes on tour

The Ikea Museum opens a pop-up shop in Stockholm, and decorates it with a Volvo 245 with a unique foiling.

That it is precisely a Volvo 245 is based on the fact that Ingvar Kamprad, Ikea’s founder, had a Volvo 245. A Volvo 245 GL, from 1993, to be more precise. A car that has also previously been exhibited at the former Volvo Museum.

– He was quite special, nothing had to cost unnecessary money, says Mattias Gustafsson, vehicle manager at the Volvo Museum, when the exhibition was in question.

– So the rear window has been replaced with plexiglass after he had backed into something during all the years he drove the car.

The pop-up shop will offer unique products designed by the 10 group, a design collective that is also behind the unique foiling on the Volvo 245 on display in conjunction with the shop.

– With this guest performance in Stockholm, we want to make it possible for more people to take part in the stories about Ikea, says Pär Gustafsson, CEO of the Ikea Museum, according to a press release.

If you want to take a closer look at the car, it is best to do so between September 2 and the end of December at the Gallerian in Stockholm.
