Kabe TM Royal x780 LXL: Driving report

The luxury camper in the test
Kabe TM Royal x780 LXL: Driving report

Hardly any other manufacturer combines luxury camping and practicality as successfully as the Swedish company Kabe. We were travelling in the partially integrated royal newcomer.

By now, everyone who is even slightly interested in the Scandinavian lifestyle knows the word Hygge. The Danes use it to express a whole attitude to life that is characterized by coziness and warmth. In Sweden, by the way, this is called “mysig”. And the Swedes also live this out when camping.

No wonder then that the Motorhomes Kabe, based in Tenhult in southern Sweden, pampers campers with numerous amenities. The latest coup from the traditional manufacturer: a semi-integrated vehicle over eight meters long with big ambitions for winter camping. Kabe uses a tried and tested living space concept and takes it to the next level.

That’s it: a modern luxury camper, thought through down to the last centimeter, for all living and weather conditions. As soon as you enter the large semi-integrated vehicle, it becomes clear that everything here is designed to make you feel good. Such as the indirect lighting concept, the huge bathroom with integrated shower, the induction charging area in the entrance area or the French bed in the rear, the headboard of which can be raised electrically (594 euros).

Alde heating ensures a pleasant climate

Below is the rear garage, which is accessible from the inside. And don’t forget the Alde heater, which is typically installed in Kabe camping vehicles. In contrast to the hot air heaters usually used by other manufacturers, the hot water heating (usually including underfloor heating) creates a much more pleasant room climate, and the heat is distributed more evenly.

There is also enough space for four people – thanks to the fold-down bed and large seating area (with leather upholstery for 4110 euros). The fact that the two front seats are heated as standard is no surprise given such a pampering program. Those who don’t like winter camping will probably soon run out of arguments.

It has: Kabe sees itself as a premium manufacturer through and through. The list of standard equipment that can be found in the new semi-integrated vehicle reads accordingly: 170 hp version of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as a base, MBUX with rear view camera, automatic transmission, leather steering wheel, electric parking brake, extractor hood in the kitchen and lithium battery are just a selection.

Since our test car was the luxurious “Royal” variant, it had, in addition to the Alde, a diesel parking heater, a 90-litre diesel tank, an oven, a large refrigerator and an electrically lowerable folding bed on board.

Three-burner stove, sink, oven, enough work surface: the kitchen scores points.

What is not included as standard: an awning. The 4.50 meter long version costs another 2451 euros. Investing in so much luxury and equipment only makes sense if it is also durable. The quality of the fittings completely convinced us.

This is demonstrated by the fact that we have nothing to complain about other than a slightly clunky bathroom door. However, the test car also came straight from the trade fair marathon.

4500 kilograms and 100 km/h top speed

This is how it drives: As with all motorhomes from the Swedish brand, a royal semi-integrated vehicle such as the TM Royal x780 LXL can only be based on a Mercedes Sprinter. With its lavish equipment and enormous space over a length of eight metres, the newcomer weighs up to 4,500 kilograms. So it can’t go faster than 100 km/h. The Kabe is so safe and quiet on the road that you have to keep reminding yourself of the dimensions.

When maneuvering, however, you should keep an eye on the long rear overhang. The large structure is no problem for the assistance systems. Crosswind assist (installed at the factory) and adaptive cruise control (2847 euros) work reliably.

Thanks to decent insulation and solid furniture construction, the noise from the construction is kept to a minimum. The vacation begins as soon as you get in.

Who needs an apartment? The Kabe TM Royal x780 LXL offers all the comforts of home. Even in winter. Of course, the price is not cheap. However, this Kabe is not just a motorhome for all occasions, but one for life.
