It is important to position the jack correctly, especially if you are lifting an electric car. A Tesla driver recently had to pay SEK 158,000 for damages caused by the jack during the leasing period.
When you return a privately leased car, an inspection takes place. Damages in addition to “normal wear and tear” may be compensated by the lessee. It could be parking damage or broken furnishings.
For a German Tesla driver, the return was extra tough. When the Tesla workshop inspected the car, the bill was SEK 158,000.
The workshop stated that the attachment for the jack was “porous” and cracked”. Even worse, the battery was damaged and needed to be replaced.
According to the leasing company, the damage is due to the car being lifted without using specially designed rubber pads between the car and the jack. But it is not clearly stated in the user manual or on Tesla’s website that such should be used, according to the German electric car portal Efahrer.com.
There are several similar cases involving Tesla Model 3s manufactured in 2020 or 2021.
Regardless of the debt issue, it is a good idea to be extra careful and use rubber pads when lifting your electric car.
