We are being teased by Lotus, but we have no idea with what yet.
The new Lotus started off so well, with the Emira as a cool sports car to herald a new era. Unfortunately, the next steps were a bit less Lotus-esque. The Eletre SUV and the Emeya sedan are definitely not ‘des Lotus’. Never mind, there will be more sports cars. Right?
Lotus Theory 1
On Chinese social media, Lotus’ marketing boss sends one image into the world. With the only other information that it will be called Theory 1 (and is therefore probably still a concept) and that the unveiling is on September 17. So next Tuesday.
So all we can do is speculate. We see a rather aggressive angle at what appears to be the rear of the car, with the text ‘Lotus’ between the taillights. The part above it appears to be a spoiler, possibly one that is electronically controlled. We don’t know for sure, but it appears to be more than an SUV or sedan.
Elise successor
According to Autocar, the Theory 1 is likely to be a preview for the Lotus Type 135, the codename for an Elise successor. At least, a car that is supposed to follow in the Elise’s footsteps. The brand has already confirmed that they only want to build electric cars, so don’t put too much hope in a 700 kg car with a 2.0 liter petrol engine. Although we would of course like to be surprised.
We’ll see on September 17th. Exciting!

A raised shed with a fancy spoiler and 1000++hp…
It wouldn’t surprise me anymore since Colin Chapman turned over in his grave.

It will probably be another SUV version of the Elise. EV roadsters are very rare. Even the Caterham Project V and the EV Seven are not there yet.
