New rules for B driving licenses from 1 July

As of July 1, there will be relaxations in the requirements regarding transport with trucks that run on alternative fuels.

Initially, it will be a trial operation where companies, authorities or other organizations can apply for exemptions from the driving license act.

– The lack of drivers with authorization to drive heavier electric vehicles is an obstacle to the green transformation of the transport industry, says Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson (KD), according to regenning.se.

– With this decision, where new rules on trial operations come into place as early as July 1, the electrification of freight transport is facilitated by more drivers being given the opportunity to drive heavier electric vehicles.

Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlsson therefore believes that this should contribute to speeding up the conversion to electric vehicles, as electric or gas operation can mean increased weight on the truck.

With the exception, drivers who have held a B driving license for at least two years are given the opportunity to drive trucks with a total weight exceeding 3,500 kg but not 4,250 kg.

This means that drivers who do not have a C driving license and certificate of professional competence can drive vehicles for goods transport and parcel deliveries, among other things.

The rules apply to vehicles powered by electricity, liquid gas or natural gas.
