One owner drove half a million with this super-sleek Saab

Very reliable, those Saabs. This super tight Saab has had only 1 owner!

The time when the last Saab rolled off the assembly line is getting further and further away. Time ensures that everything is eventually gone, whether it is bad politics, pleasant temperatures or 2 Unlimited: it will eventually no longer exist. Of course, that also applies to Saabs. They will disappear from the streets at some point.

But that doesn’t seem to be working out for now, because we looked on Marktplaats and gosh, there are still a lot of Saabs for sale! Of course, that’s not just because of the incredible quality of those cars. It simply means that owners invest a lot of money to keep those cars running.

Super sleek Saab 9-5

And that must have been the previous owner of the super-tight Saab 9-5. Because we have found another nice car! This is namely a Saab 9-5 of the second generation. It was the last straw for Saab to make something of it. Victor Muller had just taken over Saab with Spyker and the 9-5 had to be a success to make Saab a success. Unfortunately that did not work out, but fortunately we still have the cars.

In this case it is a Saab 9-5 from the first owner! The first! He picked up the car on October 30, 2010 from a Saab dealer. Then this good man (or woman, that is also allowed these days) drove more than 500,000 km with it. More than half a million! All kilometers are neatly registered. No shady import with a lot of owners, but just a nice car from one owner.

Cryptic

It is of course a diesel, the cryptically named 2.0 TTID (pronounced ‘Tie-Tiet’ in English). That is a two-liter diesel with two turbos. It delivered 190 hp and was coupled to a manual transmission. Yes, that used to be ‘the fattest diesel’. Fun fact: General Motors was planning a six-cylinder diesel. This engine had a cylinder capacity of 2.9 liters and delivered about 250 hp and 550 Nm.

The engine was designed to fit in cars with the engine both lengthwise and transversely. Lengthwise for the Cadillac CTS and transversely for the Saab 9-5 and an Opel Insignia OPC diesel (yes, really!). Read more about the 9-5 with six-cylinder diesel here.

Aero Exclusive!

So here we are talking about the four-cylinder in the famous Aero Exclusiv trim. That is a shame for Saab, that a relatively light diesel was allowed to bear the name ‘Aero’. Badge devaluation is of all times, that much is clear.

The car still looks very good in 2024, so it is not so bad that the car is an Aero version, with those thick wheels and bumpers. They did not come out of the battle completely unscathed. There are a few scratches to be seen here and there. But hey, 509,397 km (NAP!) is not bad either. Interested? You can view the advertisement here!
