Record low average consumption for Vision EQXX

How low can average consumption be when it comes to electric operation? The Vision EQXX concept car from Mercedes-Benz pushes the boundaries a little further and reaches a new record level.

In a long-distance test, Mercedes-Benz has managed to push the numbers a little further in terms of how efficient an electric car can be.

This is the third long-distance test for the Vision EQXX and this time it has been driven from Riyadh to Dubai – a distance of over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge.

In addition to showing that tough conditions in desert climates are not an obstacle, they have now also refined the technology further. Great focus has been placed on the car’s thermal management.

In conjunction with 117 solar cells on the car’s roof, which work to further store energy, the total range could be increased by 24 kilometers. And the average consumption? Low 7.4 kWh per 100 kilometers.

– With an exceptional consumption of only 7.4 kWh/100 km, the Vision EQXX continues to provide important data for the further development of advanced electric efficiency, says Markus Schäfer, Chairman of the Board, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, according to a press release.

Not only did it manage the total distance of 1,010 kilometers with the record low average consumption, the Vision EQXX had a range of around 309 kilometers left in the battery.

– As expected, all systems worked at the highest level in a desert climate, with roadholding challenges in the form of varying road surfaces and high temperatures, and dust. Another proof that electric operation is ripe for global markets, adds Markus Schäfer.

So what’s in store for this efficient electric car with only 0.17 cW value? No clear announcements yet, but it is clear that Mercedes-Benz continues to evaluate the potential in electric mobility.

Previous tests have been carried out on two occasions in Europe and the Vision EQXX has also been shown in the USA and China.
