Renault Korea’s ambitious Aurora 1 will be fully unveiled in June.

Interest is gathering one month ahead of the unveiling of Renault Korea’s new car, Aurora 1 (project name). Renault Aurora 1, which will be unveiled for the first time at the 2024 Busan Mobility Show held in Busan from June 28 to July 7, is a mid-sized hybrid SUV and competes with Santa Fe and Sorento. Aurora 1 is expected to be shipped as early as August.

According to the industry on the 28th, Renault Korea’s Busan factory will begin remodeling production facilities in early June and early July. In order to produce the Aurora 1 project, Renault Korea recently began expanding its sales network by replacing the company’s emblem and recruiting sales advisors (SA) ahead of the launch of a new car in the second half of the year.

Renault Korea is strengthening its electrification lineup by introducing the XM3 E-Tech Hybrid, which is currently on sale, the Aurora 1, a mid-sized hybrid SUV that will begin shipping in the second half of the year, and the Scenic electric vehicle in the future. In addition, after the launch of Scenic, the coupe-type SUV Aurora 2 will be added in 2026, and the battery electric vehicle Aurora 3 will be added in 2027.

Aurora 1, announced by Renault Korea, is a D-segment mid-size hybrid SUV. Aurora 1, which will be called QM7 or QM8, will be released based on Gilly’s Xingyu L. Based on Xingyu L’s chassis and hybrid powertrain, it will be introduced as a model with improved front and rear design and interior specifications.

Xingyu L is a mid-size SUV designed based on the CMA platform jointly developed by Volvo and Geely. It has a body with a total length of 4770mm, a total width of 1895mm, and a wheelbase of 2845mm, and although the overall length is slightly shorter than the new Santa Fe (4830mm, 2815mm) or the new Sorento (4815mm, 2815mm), the wheelbase is longer.

The powertrain is a hybrid drivetrain that combines a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine and an electric motor, producing a combined output of 245 horsepower. The engine alone produces 150 horsepower and the electric motor produces 100 kW (136 horsepower), allowing acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. A hybrid-specific 3-speed transmission is included in the drivetrain.
