Was this an intentional leak of the new Smarts #5? One thing is certain: The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) caused a sensation on Thursday (June 13) and published the first official pictures and technical data of the cult brand’s new compact high-legged vehicle.
Modern EV technology in the Smart #5
The co-production of Mercedes and Geely is about 4.55 meters longer than the Smart#1 in the size range of a typical compact SUV. The Swabian Chinese is equipped with an 800-volt high-voltage system and offers various performance variants, including a basic model with around 272 hp and a more powerful version with over 400 hp.

Design: Space miracle with style
The published images now show an SUV that takes up the design line of the Smart Concept #5. With clear lines and a striking appearance, the compact SUV looks modern and dynamic.
First test drives in China
The current photos also show that the smart #5 is already being put through its paces on the streets of Hangzhou Bay in China. The world premiere of the smart #5 is planned for the second half of 2024. The exact date of the European market launch is yet to be announced.
