Tesla price war: Model Y drops by almost DKK 50,000.

Tesla does it again. The extremely popular Model Y is dropping in price, and this time it is up to DKK 48,000. You save the most money by choosing the Long Range version.

Tesla made 2023 a headache for all the competitors. Very large price drops on the Model 3 and Model Y shook the notion of how cars are priced, and this has given the American brand enormous success in Denmark and many other places in Europe.

The price party did not end in 2023 – it continues here in 2024. Tesla is now doing it again: Model Y comes at significantly lower prices, and the price drop is up to DKK 48,000.

It has already been possible to secure a Model Y at a lower price than the list prices if you chose a so-called stock model. Now the prices are consistently lowered, so you can design your own Model Y and order it at prices from DKK 344,990.

Tesla price war: Model Y drops by almost DKK 50,000.

Long Range with long range now under DKK 400,000.

The latest price adjustments apply to all variants of Model Y. Model Y is available in the base model Model Y with rear-wheel drive (455 kilometers of range), as Model Y Long Range with four-wheel drive (533 kilometers of range) and as Model Y Performance with even more power and four-wheel drive (514 kilometer range).

The base model drops from approximately DKK 383,000 to DKK 344,990, so you save approximately DKK 38,000. The biggest saving is achieved by choosing the Model Y Long Range; it drops by DKK 48,000 from DKK 440,990 to DKK 392,990.

Model Y Performance has so far cost DKK 456,496, and it has been reduced to DKK 424,990. Here you save DKK 31,506.

Good for new buyers, bad for existing ones

Competitors will once again wish Tesla far away. These are the rules of the game, and it is a new dynamic and a new reality that can be very difficult for many traditional car brands to cope with.

The new price adjustments are very good news for Danes looking for a new car. This is a big direct saving, and there is no need to negotiate the lower price.

Prices which are being reduced again are, however, bad news for the nearly 18,000 Danes who bought a new Model Y in 2023. They are now all left with cars that are worth considerably less than they were yesterday. It is good for Tesla sales now and then, but it is hardly good for the relationship between the customer and the car brand.

The best thing you can do if you have bought a Model Y at the 2023 price is to keep the car for a long time so that you don’t feel the big loss in value. Tesla is not going to compensate existing customers for the price drop. The price of a new car is no longer a fixed amount, and it is perfectly legal for Tesla to reduce prices again.
