Tesla raises the prices of the Model Y

Is the price war over? Certainly not, but Tesla once again manages to confuse the market with their price adjustments. This time they are raising the prices on the popular Model Y.

Today you have to start dinner with dessert, put your underpants on your head and run backwards. It is, in fact, reversal day if we are to believe Tesla. They are adjusting the price of their Model Y for God knows what time – but this time the prices are going up a notch.

It’s only been a month since Tesla made another stab at the price war and lowered the Model Y Long Range by as much as DKK 48,000. The rear-wheel drive base model was also reduced by DKK 38,000, so that it could be sold for DKK 344,990.

If you thought that was a sharp price, you should have struck. The basic model has increased by DKK 15,000 from DKK 344,990 to DKK 359,990. A modest increase, which corresponds to around 4.3 percent, but an increase nonetheless.

The Tesla Model Y Long Range is also increasing, albeit by even less than the base model. It will be DKK 7,000 more expensive from DKK 392,990 to now DKK 399,990. Tesla Model Y Performance remains unchanged at DKK 424,990.

The price adjustment could, potentially, give prospective customers more incentive to strike now because they signal that the price war is over. It can also simply seek to empty out the inventory for the Model Y Performance, which is now more attractive with a modest additional price of DKK 25,000 compared to the Long Range.

However, exactly what underlies the interesting pricing strategy must remain uncertain. For the same reason, it is too early to conclude that the price war among electric cars is over yet.
