The best for your raised SUV: lowering

That high entry is nice, but you’ll make a big buck out of your SUV if you lower it.

To throw a spanner in the works: SUVs certainly do have advantages. With a higher ground clearance you have the space to mount larger (more comfortable) tires, you have more suspension options and people also like the step-in. Things go wrong when manufacturers use words like ‘dynamic’ and ‘sporty’. Raising a car and then lowering it again under the guise of sportiness sounds extremely contradictory. Then start low. Ergo: you are better off taking a Golf R than a T-Roc R.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a bit of a question mark. It’s an SUV/crossover in theory, but proportionally it feels a bit like a hatchback. It’s a beast of a car though, and you’ll notice that when you see one. The N trimmings of the N version make it a pretty cool machine in itself. And we have to hand it to Hyundai: you don’t get the option to buy a ‘low’ Ioniq 5 N, because there simply isn’t one.

You can knock on KW’s door. You probably know this German company from their chassis, especially coilovers. Their KW V3 coilover now also fits under the Ioniq 5. With this you can adjust the driving behavior and set the height. And that suits the Korean super-EV perfectly.

According to KW, the Ioniq 5 N drops 10 to 35 mm thanks to the V3 set. Exactly what it needed, if we are to believe the pictures. A set of BBS rims will of course complete the whole thing. Incidentally, the N is lowered slightly compared to the Ioniq 5, but the V3 set also fits on the normal Ioniq. It can then be lowered by 50 millimeters. Of course, the damping and ride height can be adjusted manually, as befits a good coilover set.

In other words: as far as we’re concerned, a must for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. Unfortunately, it does cost an additional 2,499 euros. Oh well, what’s that on top of the starting price of 73,995 euros in the Netherlands?
