Volvo discontinues car subscription program
The end of “Care by Volvo”

With flexible and favorable conditions, “Care by Volvo” offered a tempting leasing alternative. But now Volvo is surprisingly pulling the plug and discontinuing the popular car subscription model.

Car subscriptions are ideal for people who want to be mobile but don’t want to be tied down to their own car. For a fixed monthly fee, the provider provides a vehicle for the agreed contract period, with all operating costs included except for fuel or electricity. Another advantage is flexibility: thanks to shorter terms than, for example, with leasingvehicles can be exchanged or disposed of at short notice. Car subscription providers include Finn, Volkswagen and Sixt. Volvo In 2017, Volvo introduced a subscription program called “Care by Volvo” – which the Swedish car manufacturer has now surprisingly discontinued on August 1, 2024.

Care by Volvo discontinued

With “Care by Volvo”, the Swedish carmaker wanted to offer more flexibility than with conventional leasing. According to the program conditions, customers could choose a car from the inventory and then exchange it for another model after five months or terminate the subscription without penalty.

The monthly subscription fee included not only the car costs but also insurance, Vehicle tax24-hour roadside assistance and other extras. But that’s over now. Volvo ended its subscription program in the USA and Europe on August 1, 2024. Existing subscriptions will continue until the end of the term, but new contracts can no longer be concluded.

This is how it continues

The subscription program apparently helped Volvo reach a new target group. It is not known how many people have signed up for “Care by Volvo.” However, data from previous years show that 80 percent of users were new customers of the brand. Subscribers are now entitled to a credit of around 900 euros when purchasing a new car or just under 450 euros when signing a leasing contract. After the end of the subscription, Volvo wants to focus on its core offerings and the launch of new products while increasing operational efficiency, according to the website InsideEVs.
