The F2 star replaces sacked Williams driver Logan Sargeant

That American Logan Sargeant would not continue to be trusted by Williams was not entirely unexpected. He now gets the kick – halfway into the current season.

Previously, we were able to report on a “war of words” between Indycar driver Marcus Ericsson and Logan Sargeant, where the former spoke about the American in Viaplay’s Formula 1 podcast.

Logan Sargeant responded and assured the assembled press that everything was under control, and that Marcus Ericsson was mostly talking nonsense. The Swede answered and would “invite him for a beer”.

The outgoing Williams driver further explained that “what’s best for the team going forward is also best for me”. The team has therefore chosen to release him – a message that came on Tuesday.

– Replacing a driver during the current season is not an easy decision, but we believe this gives Williams the best conditions to fight for important points during the rest of the season, says Williams team manager James Vowles, according to F1.com.

A large update package has been delivered to the car and now it’s about “maximizing the points opportunities available”.

“Undeniably, this is tough on Logan, who has given his all during his time with Williams, and we want to thank him for his hard work and his positive attitude. Logan is a talented driver and we support him in continuing to compete in the future, adds James Vowles.

Logan Sargeant’s replacement will be Formula 2 driver Franco Colapinto. In addition to competing in Formula 2, Franco Colapinto is also part of the Williams Driver Academy driver program.

– […] Franco gets a great opportunity to show what he’s all about in the final nine races of the season, explains James Vowles.

– I know that Franco is fast and has a lot of potential, and we look forward to seeing what he can achieve in Formula 1.

The 21-year-old Argentine Franco Colapinto himself believes that this is “what dreams are made of”, when he commented on the announcement.

– The team has so much history and an aspiration to get to the close fight, which I am excited to be a part of, he continues.

– Coming in halfway into an F1 season means a steep learning curve but I welcome the challenge. I am focused on working as hard as I can together with Alex [Albon] and the team to push for the best.

The future of Logan Sargeant

What awaits the departing Logan Sargeant has not been determined at this time.

– I am proud to have been able to represent such a historic team in the last two seasons, says the American, according to the sports blog site SBnation.com.

– For the time being, I will review my choices, before announcing what the next step will be.
