The fattest Skoda Superb is still not an RS (but still cool)

The thickest Skoda Superb of the moment is a beautiful version, but Skoda refuses to call it an RS.

We already said it in our list of fat fast Skoda station wagons: there is no shortage of fast Superbs. The first two generations, you could even get the Passat brother from the Czech Republic with a fat six-cylinder, including the 260 hp 3.6 VR6 in the second generation. We were allowed to see the Sleeper Edition with 477 hp of the third generation, but unfortunately we could not buy it. We were allowed to buy the 280 hp 4×4 version with the 2.0 liter TSI.

Sporty Superb

The new generation has left the sportiness behind for a while. In terms of engines too: you have the choice of a 150 hp Mild Hybrid 1.5 TSI or the same engine with plug-in power and 204 hp. Not bad, but it doesn’t breathe pure sportiness either. Visually, you can now give the Superb a boost with the return of the Sportline.

Skoda Superb Sportline

I may have hinted at the fact that I hate ‘sporty optics packages’ because I think you can better invest that money in a truly sporty drivetrain. However, that also has a lot to do with the unnecessary sticking of sports badges on cars that are actually not justified. A Golf R-Line 1.0 TSI is not a Golf R, so to speak, but the badges suggest otherwise. However, that is why the choice for ‘Sportline’ is more to your liking. Skoda has namely made a kind of RS version of the Superb Sportline, but does not pretend anywhere that it is an RS.

The Sportline actually includes everything you expect from a somewhat sporty dressed Superb. Almost everything that can be black as an accent is black. On a color like red it is just about possible. Of course you get a unique rim design for the Sportline and slightly differently drawn bumpers for extra air cooling that you do not need. Skoda has lowered the car by 20 mm to make the gap between wheel and wheel arch a bit smaller. That helps to create a nice stance for the Sportline.

What goes hand in hand with the sports versions these days: the Sportline is at the top of the range in terms of trim. It will be an expensive version (at least, as expected, prices are not yet available), but then nicely complete. Now a car is never basically full option from the factory when we are talking about VAG, but there is enough on it in terms of styling and comfort.

The Sportline package is available for both the Combi and the sedan, prices are not yet known for the Netherlands. It is not an RS, but it comes close. A real RS for this generation is supposedly planned, but we cannot confirm that yet.
