The new RS e-tron GT performance scares both drivers and wallets

On Tuesday, Audi dropped the discreet news that they are now launching their most powerful production car ever: the new RS e-tron GT performance.

A four-door coupe with 912 hp (925 PS), a charging capacity of up to 320 kW and a battery of 105 kWh gross sounds primarily like a car in the interest of the late Ken Block. Undeniably, he could have tamed almost a thousand horses.

In addition to modest power figures, the new RS e-tron GT performance has received a newly developed suspension as standard.

Active suspension is also offered as an option. Something that should provide a comfort that makes it drivable even in everyday life and not only in Hoonigan movies.

– Our goal was to significantly increase driving comfort and driving dynamics, says Carsten Jablonowski, chief engineer at the Audi Driving Characteristics Development Team.

This means three handling modes: efficiency, comfort and dynamic. In addition, there are two modes that can be fine-tuned to your liking: RS1 and RS2. Here, as the driver, you get the opportunity to set the suspension, ground clearance and also the sound.

Should you still realize that something is missing, Audi unleashes the RS performance mode.

This position is suitable for track driving or “winding mountain passages”. At least that’s what the press release says. But we probably skipped RS performance mode when driving in mountain passages. There must be some moderation.

As standard, the Audi RS e-tron GT performance comes with 20-inch tires and 21-inch tires are offered as an option.

– As a design statement, every single detail of the RS e-tron GT performance has been coordinated to perfection, from the carbon fiber roof to the seat belts, from the exterior to the interior, says a highly poetic Christopher Kröner, responsible for color and details in this project.

– It’s an RS e-tron GT from top to toe. The way we use the material; the carbon fiber has no direction; it looks different from every angle. This is critical as our Gran Turismo resembles a sculpture that can be approached from all sides, and thus must have this effect.

While Christopher Kröner is pouring in praise, we can take a look at the interior. There is a funny detail here that is actually a tribute to the Audi Avant RS 2, from 1994. Audi does not even want to share a picture of this.

In the style of the white gauges of yesteryear, the RS e-tron GT performance has been blessed with a white Power Meter (we don’t know either) and a white speedometer.

If you feel like placing an order, we can tell you that the order books are open now. Prices start at SEK 1,860,000 for the performance version.

If you feel satisfied without a performance, you might be happy for an S e-tron GT: which starts at 1,460,000 kroner. The alternative is the RS e-tron GT, with a starting price of SEK 1,695,200.
