The old S2000 is now completely in 2024

The Honda S2000 is now completely up to date.

Yesterday Jaap talked about tires, in that case specifically for electric cars. Since Jaap is our left-wing, progressive and awake conscience on the editorial staff, he has devoted an epistle to it where even Maarten van Rossum spontaneously starts using deodorant.

Today we have good news for people with a nice and special car. The news comes from GoodYear and the fact is that they are expanding the range of their F1 Assymetric 6, one of the better sporting tires of the moment (along with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and Continental SportContact7).

Team meat!

Why is this good news? Well they come in two special sizes: 235/45 R17 and 245/40 R18. Nowadays we live in times when rims are very large in diameter, but they are also quite narrow. In both cases these are nice and wide straps with a lot of ‘meat’ on them. #teammeat!!!

The sizes were not chosen by chance. This allows people with an old Mazda RX-7, Honda S2000 or Subaru Impreza WRX STI to buy new tires for their car. This sounds very logical, but it is really special. Manufacturers make their tires in the most popular sizes. In many cases you have to rely on an older tire from the premium brand or you have to look for a lesser known brand that happens to produce something in the right size.

What ties do you have?

That is exactly why you don’t see enthusiast cars listed on Michelins, GoodYears or Continentals, but on Falkens, Toyos or Kumhos: they serve the aftermarket much more. Also, some brands don’t have to be as ‘bad’ as their name suggests. For example, in certain parts of the tuning scene, Nangkang tires are very popular, just ask @720s who identifies as Loek.

Let’s hope that tire manufacturers will do this more often. There were plenty of car enthusiasts worldwide who still have a nice car with a slightly different tire size for 2024.

But this actually makes us curious: which tires do you have on your car? And why did you specifically choose that rubber? And most importantly, would you consider other tires if they were available in your size? Let us know in the comments and have a chance to win a free chat session with @nicolasr!
