This is not the 924 you should have if you are looking for an affordable Porsche. But he is very cool.
The great thing about a 924 is that you have a real Porsche for a reasonable price. You can buy a nice copy for less than 10 grand. However, today we are not going to look at the cheapest 924, but at the most expensive.
There is a 924 Carrera GT on Marktplaats. The 924 Carrera GT is a real homologation special, built to participate in the Group 4 racing class. That alone makes this car very cool.
A 924 always looks a bit thin if you put a 944 or a 968 next to it, but this Carrera GT doesn’t have that problem. This is an imposing appearance with its wide wheel arches. What is also striking is the thick air scoop on the hood.
That air scoop is not there for show: it was installed because an intercooler has been installed. Together with a larger turbo and increased compression, this produced 210 hp. That’s 40 hp more than a 924 Turbo and 85 hp more than a standard 924.
406 copies of the 924 Carrera GT were built for homologation, including 6 prototypes. This makes this car quite rare. That was also the price tag: the 924 Carrera GT cost more than a ton in guilders at the time.
Nevertheless, it would not have been a bad investment if you had bought one then. A 924 Carrera GT is not a Porsche that you can buy for a reasonable amount of money. Marktplaats asks €88,500 for this red copy with 130,191 km.
For that amount you can buy a small collection of normal 924s, but hey, we are talking about a rare homologation special. Compared to the prices of some rare 911s, it’s not too bad.
