This is the van of the year

This is the van of the year

and with that this brand hits a double blow

You probably already figured it out after all that van news yesterday. There is a van fair going on. Also called the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover. A perfect setting to also announce the Van of the Year 2025. As usual, they don’t choose the best of THIS year like Car Whiz. But they already choose the best of NEXT year. No, we don’t think it’s logical either, but it’s how it’s been in the car world for ages (ok. actually only since 1964).

But this year the honour goes to the Renault Master. The 5th generation of this model was apparently very appealing to the professional jury. It was the 5th time in the 33-year history of this election that the Renault Group walked away with this title. The jury commentary is full of wonderful open doors and that is allowed, because that is what a jury election is for.

The IVOTY jury was impressed by the completely new design and the high level of innovation and technology developed for the new Master range, which features advanced aerodynamics, improved usability and increased efficiency, space, safety and comfort. Plus the fact that the new modular platform is suitable for diesel, electric and hydrogen powertrains. All of these are features that meet the criteria for the award program. Ready for the future. Congratulations to Renault Light Commercials on this well-deserved achievement.

said Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman, International Van of the Year Award jury.

Admittedly, with the changing landscape, it seems very smart to deliver a van (or car) on more than just a purely electric platform.

  • 1998 – 2nd generation Renault Master
  • 2002 – Renault Trafic
  • 2012 – Renault Kangoo ZE
  • 2022 – Kangoo Van / Mercedes Citan II
  • 2025 – 5th Renault Master

The sharp Car Whiz reader might think: hey, didn’t Renault also win that other Car of the Year election for 2025? Indeed. Renault also won this title with the Renault Scenic E-Tech electric at the beginning of 2024. The only exciting thing about the Geneva Motor Show, to be honest. Because of those strange years, Renault has and has NOT won the double. THIS year two titles, but they count for different years. Car of the Year 2024 and Van of the Year 2025. Strange guys, those car journalists.

Van of the year 2024 was the Ford Transit and the title for 2023 went to the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo. So the jury clearly chooses a larger van this year.

More van news? We also have the price of the new Volkswagen Transporter for you. The Renault Estafette (what? yes indeed) and of course the new vans from KIA and BYD
