This is what the hot Cupra Born VZ costs

We finally have a price for the top version of the Cupra Born: the VZ.

It remains strange: a sports label that has become a brand and therefore needs its own sports label again. After the Formentor VZ, there is now also a Cupra Born VZ. This is one of the first electric hot hatches that you can now actually order.

We have already driven the Cupra Born VZ, but we could not yet include the price in our assessment. That was not yet known. Now we can finally tell you what you have to pay for the top version of the Born: €49,990.

For this amount you get a rear-wheel drive hot hatch (if that is still a hot hatch) with 326 hp and 545 Nm of torque. That’s more than the Seat Cupras ever had. It is also a big step compared to the regular Born, which delivers a maximum of 231 hp. The sprint from 0 to 100 takes 5.6 seconds with the Born VZ.

To ensure that the Born VZ is also a bit fun in the bends, there are adaptive shock absorbers and other stabilizer bars. The steering and brakes have also been addressed. All this paid off, because Wouter was quite pleased with this car in the driving test (see below).

As is often the case with sporty EVs, the VZ does not rely on its appearance. In principle, the VZ looks exactly the same as a regular Born, although it is of course a bit thicker as standard, including 20-inch rims. The Cup seats that the Born VZ always have are unique.

Competition

Then we can now get to the point where we compare the price with the competition, but is it really there? The most comparable car is of course the ID.3 GTX, because that is more or less the same car. There’s just no price yet. We were also able to find the following cars that you can see as competitors:

  • MINI Cooper SE (218 hp): €38,990
  • MG4 XPower (435 hp): €42,285
  • Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce (280 hp): €48,000
  • Cupra Born VZ (326 hp): €49,990

The MG4 is a significantly better deal on paper, because you get an extra 100 hp for less money. However, it is very questionable whether that car drives as much fun as the Cupra. The MINI with its 218 is not entirely a fair comparison, we actually have to wait for the JCW. Ultimately, the Alfa Junior Veloce is perhaps the most direct competitor, even though it is a crossover. The Alfa is slightly cheaper, but you also have less power.

You can now put together a Born VZ on the Cupra website
