Update for the Seat Leon: this is going to change

Seat thinks it is time to provide the Leon with an update. We list the changes for you.

Seat has a nice c-segmenter in the Leon. Fairly successful also in our country. It is not only available as a hatchback, but also as a Sportstourer. The Leon receives new engines from the Spanish brand and a new interior in the form of a larger screen and digital cockpit.

New engines

First of all, the engines. These become nice and clear. There is now a choice of a 1.0 liter three-cylinder and a 1.5 four-cylinder, both with or without mild hybrid. There is also a 1.4 plug-in. From now on, all configurations will be based on the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder.

At the moment, the entry-level engine for the Leon is a 1.0 liter three-cylinder TSI with 110 hp. It is also available as a mild-hybrid version with the support of an electric motor. As mentioned, that three-cylinder will disappear and in its place will be a new version of the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder with 115 hp.

This means that the Seat Leon is now only available with four-cylinder engines. The entry-level model is now also a four-cylinder with 5 hp more than the basic motorization of the past. It also gets an additional 20 Nm of torque, bringing the total to a maximum torque of 220 Nm.

Plug-in Hybrid

The plug-in hybrid engines are also entering a new generation. The current 1.4 TSI fuel engine will be replaced by the 1.5 TSI engine in the 150 hp version. In the PHEV it is linked to a 115 hp electric motor and together the system power comes to 204 hp through an unfathomable calculation.

The battery on board is a 19.7 kWh one and the new configuration has a purely electric driving range of about 100 kilometers WLTP. You can also charge that battery pack at a fast charger up to 50 kW and up to 11 kW at a regular charging station.

Technological update Seat Leon

Virtually nothing changes on the outside. Except for optional new matrix LED headlights that will become available for the Seat Leon hatchback.

More interesting are the changes to the technology of the infotainment system. Seat says it uses a new and improved HMI (Human-Machine Interface).

This is all integrated in the digital cockpit behind the steering wheel and in the standard screen, which has grown by 2 inches to 10.4 inches. You can also optionally opt for a 12.9-inch screen. Both screens have an illuminated slider.

Wireless charging for your mobile is not new, but wireless charging is now possible at up to 15 W with cooling, so your phone should not become very hot while charging.

Production of the new Seat Leon will start this month at the factory in Barcelona.
