Volvo Cars’ sales increase – electric cars popular

Volvo Car’s sales of purely electric cars in Europe were driving the Swedish car manufacturer’s positive sales figures.

Volvo Cars showed a record profit in the first half of this year. Now new figures show that the car manufacturer increased its sales by six percent in July this year compared to the same period last year. In total, they sold 57,447 cars. The most popular model was the Volvo XC60 with 15,577 cars, followed by the XC40/EX40 and EX30 with 13,818 and 9,201 cars.

Sales of their pure electric cars in Europe drove the positive sales figures globally. Compared to July last year, sales of their rechargeable cars have increased by 49 percent. The share of fully electrically driven cars accounted for 25 percent of sales in July. All in all, sales of purely electric cars increased by 157 percent in July compared to the same period last year.

So far this year, Volvo Cars has sold 445,520 cars globally, which is an increase of 13 percent compared to last year.

РWe are pleased to be able to report another month of sales growth, which is largely driven by sales in Europe despite a generally challenging market environment, says Bj̦rn Annwall, commercial director and vice president at Volvo Cars.

However, the differences between the various markets are large. While sales were strong in Europe, Volvo reduced its sales in both the US and China, by 11 and 31 percent respectively.
