Since 1973, VW the Passat, over 34 million units have been sold since then. The ninth generation of the model is now on the market – according to current plans, it will be the last. So the engineers followed the motto: the best comes last. The new Passat has improved in all areas. Electronic driver assistance systems and infotainment are state-of-the-art. The newly structured central display – with a 12.9-inch screen diagonal as standard – is now much more logical to operate. Overall, the interior almost looks like a luxury class car.

Thanks to a length increase of a full 15 centimeters, the trunk has even become larger: 1920 liters now fit in, significantly more than, for example, the current model of the Mercedes E-Classtraditionally one of the main competitors of the VW PassatOnly the Skoda Superb, which is technically largely identical, can keep up here.

Only as a station wagon

The share of sedans in Passat sales has always been small. With the new model, VW is taking the logical step and only offering the station wagon. The bigger surprise: there are still diesel engines. Here, VW is clearly taking customers’ wishes into account: with the Passat, these are mainly frequent business drivers.

And so the engine range of the new VW Passat covers everything from turbodiesel to petrol engines in combination with mild hybrid and hybrid technology. Dual clutch transmission is standard on all versions. Only those who want to drive completely electrically have to go for the ID.7.

Plug-in hybrid at a bargain price

Volkswagen has made the new generation of the Passat’s plug-in hybrid technology significantly more powerful. Purely electric, it can now travel around 100 kilometers – almost always enough for the daily commute to work. It can be charged with up to 40 kW of direct current. Anyone who appreciates the advantages of this technology and is considering the VW Passat can save a lot of money at Carwow. The brokerage platform is currently offering the giant Wolfsburg station wagon in the 1.5e Hybrid R-Line version with an extra saving of up to 8,093 euros compared to the list price. The system output of the gasoline-electric motor combination is 204 kW (277 hp). R-Line means: Sports seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and adaptive suspension are on board as standard.
