2024 British GP: times and what you need to know

The 2024 British GP is just around the corner. Read everything you need to know about the race at Zilversteen here!

After all the commotion and consternation of last week in Austria, we go straight to the United Kingdom. That is slightly spicy. Max Verstappen and new British crowd favorite Lando Norris fought a battle in which they were both surprised that it ended badly for both of them.

But yes, the people of the British press have sharpened their knives. Once again it is Max Verstappen who does not grant a Brit the light in the eyes. Whether it is true or not (not really) does not really matter. It is going to be a juicy weekend.

GP England

It is perhaps the most legendary race on the calendar. Together with the Italian GP and Monaco, it is one of those that simply belongs. The first edition dates back to 1926, on the high-speed track in Brooklands. The second was in 1927 and then it was quiet for a long time. In 1948, Silverstone was the scene of the battle. For a few years, the drivers raced at Aintree, which alternated with Silverstone. From 1964, they alternated between Silverstone and Brands Hatch. Now I hear you thinking: didn’t they also race at Donington? That’s right, but that was the European GP. From 1987, it has always been Silverstone.

The circuit: Silverstone

Let’s just say it right away: this is perhaps the most beautiful track on the calendar. Perhaps Suzuka is even cooler, but it’s close. Silverstone is wide, long and has a lot of fast corners. The cool thing is that you can drive multiple lines and that overtaking is possible.

Because Silverstone is quite long (5.891 km), the drivers drive ‘only’ 52 laps. There are two DRS zones. Overtaking is possible at turn 6 and turn 16. If your name is Lewis Hamilton and you hate Dutch drivers, you can also overtake at turn 9 (Copse).

A little flashback before we look ahead:

And suddenly McLaren was there! Max Verstappen took pole (1:26.720), but Lando Norris (1:26.961) and Oscar Piastri (1:27.092) were right behind.

Max Verstappen drove a time of 1:30.275 on lap 42.

It was a fun race! Max Verstappen won it with Lando Norris right behind him. The big surprise was Lewis Hamilton who came third after a very tasty race.

The first meters still have to be driven, but we already know a lot:

What is the standings at the start of the 2024 British GP?

Max Verstappen leads sovereignly: 237 points. Lando Norris is on 156 and Charles Leclerc has 150 points.

Which tyres will Pirelli bring for the 2024 British GP?

The hardest of the three possible sets: C1 is hard (white), C2 is medium (yellow), and C3 is soft (red).

What strategies are possible for the 2024 British GP?

There are several strategies possible. Basically, you start on medium and then around lap 30 go in for softs. You can also go in a bit earlier and then go on hards. Silverstone is quite demanding on the tyres.

What is the weather forecast for the 2024 British GP?

IT’S GOING TO RAIN!!! Long live British summers.

  • Friday: Cloudy, quite a bit of rain (but probably after training), 19 degrees, hardly any wind.
  • Saturday: Very cloudy, quite a bit of rain (probably before training), 16 degrees, strong westerly wind.
  • Sunday: Cloudy, occasional showers (probably during the race), 17 degrees, wind force 3 WSW.

What are Max Verstappen’s chances for the 2024 British GP?

Given the performance in the races this season, we suspect the RB20 is the fastest car on the grid here. It is wide and downforce is important (as is engine power). Perfect for the Red Bulls. Sergio Perez even has a chance to score points!!1!

2024 British GP

Who or what is the surprise for the 2024 British GP?

Haas. They often do well here and they also did well in Austria (also a fast track). McLaren Racing is no longer a surprise, Mercedes GP will be much faster here than the Scuderia Ferrari. In bad weather Fernando Alonso comes to the fore and maybe Lance Stroll feels like stepping on the gas. He does sometimes.

What do the bookmakers say about the 2024 British GP?

They say Max Verstappen will win (7/10). Lando Norris is second (3/1) and Oscar Piastri third (14/1). Russell – who won the previous race – is fourth with 18/1.

Where can I watch the 2024 British GP?

Of course you also want to know where you can follow the race.

F1TV

Of course, F1TV will be going all out again. To be fair, unlike the SkyTV team, F1TV is still somewhat objective. There are various previews, but it is mainly the reviews that are interesting. Price: 11.99 euros per month.

Viaplay

There is not much point in buying F1TV, because with a Viaplay subscription for 15.99 euros per month you also have F1TV. Then you also have football, other sports, films and series. The Dutch previews and reviews are a bit bland compared to F1TV, but in itself it is perfectly fine. The commentary of Melvin and Nelson is also socially accepted to be good these days.

Streams

Don’t feel like spending money? Check out these streams. Low resolution, lots of lag and sometimes a language you don’t understand. But hey, it’s free!

VPN

A good solution is to watch via a VPN. Then you can log in via Luxembourg or Austria and watch RTL Luxembourg or ORF respectively. You can tickle your language skills at the same time.

Grand Prix Radio

Or what you do, you take the image of one of the above possibilities and put the sound of Grand Prix Radio under it. Then you can listen to Olav Mol and Jack Plooij in a nice familiar way.

2024 British GP Prediction

Every race there are three employees on the work floor who know about Formula 1. Nevertheless, Michael, Wouter and Jaap are allowed to have their predictive pee on it:

Michael

  1. Norris
  2. Russell
  3. Piastres

Seriously, did Russell just win in Australia like I predicted? Great! I nominate Norris for this race, just because I want excitement in the championship. George now in 2 and Oskar in 3

Michael, predicted Xavi Simons’ position at 10.

Wouter

  1. Russell
  2. Verstappen
  3. Piastres

It’s a bit more exciting these days, a blessing for the sport and for the viewers. Max has been dominant up until now, except for the very last part of the race in Austria. The old “fighter Max” revived and Jack took off with it. (Think about that again.)

The last time Max had a fight with a Brit at Silverstone he ended up in the hospital. It was a spectacular mega-hit, this in contrast to the kiss the little yapper gave in Austria. Max is being careful this time and pays the price for it immediately.

Wouter, predicted the contract extension of Sergio Pérez.

Jaap

  1. Norris
  2. Verstappen
  3. Hamilton

In the past, Bulli was extremely premium on Zilversteen. But I think McLaren now has the best car. At the end of stints, the orange cars are consistently faster, especially in the hands of Norris. Lando is the new tire whisperer.

Max is in a bit of a slump after Austria and has to settle for P2. A popular podium is for old hand Hamilton, who finally beats Russell who still has some champagne in his collar in front of his home crowd.

Jaap, foresaw everything but changed nothing
