Ford Bronco: that’s an INSANE amount of BPM on it

There is an insane amount of BPM on a Ford Bronco. It’s really crazy that the government makes more money on a Bronco than Ford itself.

Ford is doing a great job of reinventing itself right now. In many markets they are eliminating regular MPVs, sedans, hatchbacks and station wagons in favor of crossovers and SUVs. Fortunately, they don’t forget the Mustang, but otherwise all passenger cars are becoming crossovers. The Fiesta has already been released and the Focus will not have a successor.

Now Ford simply follows what the Ford customer does. The Fiesta driver switches to a Puma and the Focus driver to a Kuga. These are neat crossovers by the book, but in the US they have many more and the coolest is of course the Ford Bronco! That name alone. You could almost say that the Bronco is the Mustang among off-roaders.

Two versions

Ford already announced that the Bronco is also coming to the Netherlands for enthusiasts and we are very happy with that. you can get the Bronco with one powertrain and two trim levels. The engine is always the 2.7 liter EcoBoost with 335 hp and 563 Nm.

A ten-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is all-wheel drive. The entry-level is the Outer Banks. It already has items such as active cruise control, Apple CarPlay, 18-inch off-road wheels, electrically operated seats and so on.

With the Badlands you don’t get a CD player containing Bruce Springsteen’s album Darkness of the Edge of Twon (click here if you don’t know why). The Badlands looks a bit cooler with roof rails, unique grille and black wheel arch edges. Nice detail: the rims are a size smaller at 17 inches. The car is more suited to off-roading with a limited slip differential and Bilstein suspension.

Insane amount of BPM on the Ford Bronco

But we are also a bit curious, because despite the presence of a downsize engine, we suspect that the asking price is not cheap. Large off-roaders have a lot of resistance and therefore high CO2 emissions. This in turn results in a high BPM fine and an almost unsellable car.

Ford is smart by stating in the press release what they get from the Bronco. The net list price of the cheapest Bronco (the Badlands) is 62,940 euros. If you choose the Outer Banks version, Ford wants 66,375 euros for it. Pretty decent amounts when you see what you get in return.

But then the tax authorities will take a piss on it. Due to the high CO2 emissions, the starting price of the Bronco is 153,100 euros. Yes, 153,100! The Outer Banks can be included for 161,100 euros. This means that the tax authorities collect 75,143 euros in BPM on a Bronco Outer Banks and 78,986 euros on a Badlands. Please note that in both cases more than 13 grand in VAT will be added.

Of course you will receive a thank you note, flowers and a big hug from Steven van Weyenberg. You know, the outgoing minister of finance until a new cabinet comes in.

Competition prices:

I don’t understand why Ford doesn’t bring the 4 cylinder to Europe.
Quite a potent block and fits our market much better.

  2. Johanneke say

If they had added a battery to make it even heavier, it would be dirt cheap again. What beautiful logic we have here.

    • PrettyAwesome say

The logic is clear: discourage the potential buyer from purchasing a co2 cannon.

      • Hawkeye72 say

Because the MHEVs and PHEVs etc. do not emit CO2? While clean diesel (little CO2 too) becomes completely impossible. The only logic is symbolic politics and green pushback.

  3. potver7 say

Well, rightly so, right? Completely pointless car for the average ‘Ollander, so if you want one you’ll have to pay for it. Ford could also choose to bring the 2.3 liter four-cylinder to the Netherlands, but apparently they are afraid that the Dutch snobbers will turn their noses up at that.

    • Jurgen say

I think you’re saying this from the comfortable tax haven of Belgium, then it’s easy to talk…

    • Hawkeye72 say

Just a question: why do you decide for all of us which cars are or are not pointless?

    • E320cdi say

Paying more than 100% in taxes is never justified. But most of the cars I see driving every day are all big, tall and heavy. That is indeed completely unnecessary for most, but it also adds nothing to a (PH)EV. And why the Bronco has to be made so expensive… Just pathetic.

The US configurator gives a price of $50k for the 2.7 Ecoboost with 10-speed automatic transmission. In other words, whatever you pay for it, a Dutch person pays a ton more for this than an American. Then you must be a real enthusiast…

  5. Oopelkadet say

That’s why, apart from 6 months of gray, cold and wet: pack your bags and move to Germany or Belgium, for example. Or more south as our dear Lord intended. In any case, living like a God in the Netherlands will never be used as a slogan.
