The new BMW M5 is expected to be released in Korea. BMW Korea began full-scale promotion by introducing the new M5 on its official website. The new M5 is a 7th generation full change and is equipped with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) based on a 4.4-liter V8 turbo engine, with a combined total output of 727 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h performance of 3.4 seconds.
The new M5 was released globally last month as a 7th-generation full change. BMW is rapidly introducing new global cars, reflecting the importance of the Korean market, and various new cars will be introduced domestically only in the second half of the year, including the partial change of the M4 in August and the full change of the X3 in September. The new M5 is likely to be released domestically in the first half of 2025.
The core of the new M5 is the electrified powertrain. The new M5 combines a 4.4-liter V8 turbo engine, 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, electric motor, and battery to produce a combined total output of 727 horsepower and a maximum torque of 102kgm. The new M5 accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and its top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
The new M5’s standstill acceleration performance is 0.2 seconds slower than the previous generation. Despite the application of lightweight technologies such as the newly designed transmission mount and lightweight aluminum suspension, the new M5 has a curb weight of 2,445 kg. This is a 24% increase over the previous M5. The new M5 can drive up to 40 km on EV when the battery is fully charged.
The new M5’s all-wheel drive system can switch to rear-wheel drive depending on the driving situation. BMW’s patented technology used between the electric motor rotor and the transmission minimizes electric motor output loss. Boost control has also been added, so that when the left-hand paddle shifter on the steering wheel is pulled, maximum performance is achieved.
The new M5 is wider than the regular model. A 20-inch wheel was applied to the front wheel and a 21-inch wheel to the rear wheel. It provides high-performance brakes, a dedicated body kit, sports seats optimized for track and long-distance driving, and an M-specific display. The price of a new car is $119,500 (about 165 million won) in the United States.
